Brad Pitt’s Formula One thriller F1: The Movie is new on digital streaming Friday.

An Apple Original Films release distributed by Warner Bros., F1: The Movie opened in theaters on June 27. Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick), F1: The Movie stars Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a once-promising racer on the Formula One Racing circuit in the 1990s whose life and career went into a tailspin following a near-fatal accident.

While driving as a racer-for-hire in the motorsports world 30 years later, Sonny catches the eye of his former Formula One teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), who now owns an F1 racing team. In a last-ditch effort to save his team from going under, Ruben convinces Sonny to join him to help mentor a Joshua Pearce (Damon Idris), a hot-headed driver who spurns the veteran driver’s help.

F1: The Movie is set to released on Friday on digital streaming via premium video on demand, as confirmed by a new listing on Fandango at Home. The digital platform lists the PVOD purchase price for F1: The Movie as $24.99 and the rental price at $19.99

In addition to Fandango at Home, F1: The Movie should be available on such digital platforms as Apple TV and Prime Video.

Director Joseph Kosinski Wanted ‘F1: The Movie’ To Be As Authentic As Possible

Realizing how large and loyal the fan base of Formula One racing is, F1: The Movie director Joseph Kosinski told Esquire in an interview before the film’s release in June that he strove to make the film as authentic as possible

“Formula One is a sport of detail, right? Everything is measured down to the gram and to a fraction of a second,” Kosinski told Esquire. “We’ve had a couple qualifying sessions this season where they’ve been separated by a thousandth of a second. So yeah, I wanted to get that all right.”

And to make the best possible film, Kosinski said he contacted a Formula One luminary for help.

“That’s why the first person I talked to was Lewis Hamilton,” Kosinski told Esquire. “I reached out to him and asked him if he would help me, and thankfully he did. Having a seven-time world champion on the team to make sure that we’re getting those details right – or at least as close to right as you can on a film – was invaluable.”

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and also starring Kerry Condon, Kim Bodnia, Sarah Niles and Tobias Menzies, F1: The Movie is new on PVOD on Friday.
