FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick revealed that Pedri has “hamstring problems” which saw him brought off during their team’s 4-2 win over Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, the total timeframe that Pedri is expected to be out was reported on by AS correspondent Javi Miguel.

Pedri went to the ground around the hour mark in the Czech Republic, with his manager Flick visibly worried about the setback which saw the midfielder having to be escorted off the pitch by medical staff.

Thankfully from a sporting perspective for Barca, the number 8’s replacement Dani Olmo scored another clutch goal to make it 3-2 just minutes after coming on, and Robert Lewandowski made up for his own goal which leveled it for Slavia Prague before half time to give the visitors a 4-2 win overall.

Pedri might be out of FC Barcelona action for up to a month

Barca’s hard-earned three points means it can finish in the first eight of the UCL league phase without the need to contend a knockout phase entry playoff depending on how well things go against Copenhagen next week, but there is obviously concern about Pedri.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, SPORT’s Xavi Espinosa explained that Pedri “has suffered a hamstring injury in his right leg”.

“It’s not a relapse; in October he injured the hamstring [injury] in his left leg. Let’s hope it’s just muscular. We’ll see what the Barca Medical Services say,” Espinosa added.

Over at AS, Javi Miguel confirmed that the injury is in the Spain international’s right leg, and added that “if confirmed, the time out, seeing Pedri’s history in this type of injury, could easily be around three or four weeks”.

Later, in a tweet, Miguel then added that Pedri has suffered a tear in the biceps femoris and quoted the same timeframe of absence once more.

FC Barcelona coach Flick also confirmed an injury

Speaking to Movistar, Flick was tight-lipped on the matter and merely commented when asked: “I don’t know how he is, he has hamstring problems and he has to have tests.”

Those are expected to be done tomorrow, and the club will no doubt pass on the diagnosis given by the medical staff and possibly how long Barca will be without its star midfielder.

How will FC Barcelona line up without Pedri?

With Fermin Lopez in such blistering form – two goals rightly saw him crowned the MVP in Prague – his CAM spot is guaranteed.

Behind the ‘Ferminator’ in the more retreated midfield positions alongside Frenkie de Jong, however, where Pedri has lined up, we could see Dani Olmo perhaps partner the Dutchman or one of the Marcs in Marc Bernal and Marc Casado.

If Gerard Martin forms a duo with Pau Cubarsi in defense, Eric Garcia is another candidate for the role.

Without Pedri, FC Barcelona returns to the Spotify Camp Nou for its first home match in five weeks at the weekend to host Real Oviedo in La Liga.
