Lana Del Rey scored the hit of her career more than a decade ago with “Summertime Sadness.” The tune was a fan favorite when she first shared it in 2012, but it wasn’t until Cedric Gervais remixed it, turning it into a radio-ready dance banger, that the world truly paid attention. That reworking, which arrived in 2013, turned “Summertime Sadness” into a sleeper hit, the kind millions revisit when it becomes seasonally appropriate once again. Now, more than 10 years into its lifetime, “Summertime Sadness” is finding new audiences and becoming bigger every week in the United Kingdom.
“Summertime Sadness” Climbs the Streaming Chart
At the moment, “Summertime Sadness” can only be found on one U.K.-based music ranking, the Official Streaming chart. People across the country continue to press play on the Del Rey track in large numbers, and this frame it steps up to No. 74.
That marks a new peak position for the cut on the list of the most-streamed songs all across the country.
A New High Two Weeks in a Row
“Summertime Sadness” has climbed to a never-before-seen peak on the Official Streaming Chart two weeks in a row. Just days ago, the track reentered the tally at No. 75 after going missing for about a month.
That position beat the previous high of No. 77, which the track reached in late June 2023. Now, as July wears on, Del Rey’s classic soars again.
A Decade Later and Still Gaining
“Summertime Sadness” didn’t reach the Official Streaming chart until September 2022, a decade after it was initially released. The song has returned to the streaming-only tally in the U.K. almost every year since, though it did completely miss the roster in 2024, oddly enough.
Born to Die Gains as Well
“Summertime Sadness” is featured on Born to Die, Del Rey’s major label debut album and her breakthrough project. As people in the U.K. continue to press play on the tune, the collection rises once again on the Official Albums Streaming chart, lifting from No. 36 to No. 31. It also ascends to No. 32 on the list of the most-consumed EPs and full-lengths in the U.K.
At the same time, purchases of Born to Die appear to be dropping, as the set falls on the Official Albums Sales, Official Physical Albums, and Official Vinyl Albums tallies.
