ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1483 Hints, Clues And Answer For Friday, July 11th

Not only is it Saturday, it’s also the 14th anniversary of the publication of A Dance With Dragons, the fifth—and most recent—in George R.R. Martin’s A Song Of Ice And Fire fantasy series. Fourteen years we’ve waited for The Winds Of Winter, and perhaps we will wait another fourteen before it sees the light of day.

It’s also my son’s fifteenth birthday. Happy birthday kiddo! He turned one when A Dance With Dragons came out, which made reading that book a little trickier in terms of time and energy. I still devoured it, of course. I didn’t think my kids would be nearing adulthood before the next book came out. My daughter had just turned four at the time and now she’s 18! Life comes at you fast.

Okay, enough rambling. Let’s solve this Wordle!

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

SHAME wasn’t the best opening guess—what a shame!—but CLOUT slashed the 162 remaining words down to just 10. I went for BILGE because I could think of a few ‘B’ words, but this was just off the mark. Thankfully, only EXILE remained. Huzzah!

Competitive Wordle Score

0 points for the Bot and I thanks to guessing in four and tying. Our July totals remain:

Erik: -2 points

Wordle Bot: 8 points

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “exile” comes from Latin exilium, meaning “banishment,” from exul or exsul, meaning “a banished person.” This is likely formed from ex- (“out”) and a root meaning “to leap or move,” though the exact second element is uncertain. It entered English via Old French exil.
