The speaker of Iran’s Parliament said Wednesday it would only agree to a lasting ceasefire and reopening the Strait of Hormuz if the U.S. lifts its naval blockade, as negotiations between the two sides have stalled.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said in a post on X a “complete ceasefire only makes sense if it is not violated by the maritime blockade and the hostage-taking of the world’s economy,” adding that “reopening the Strait of Hormuz is impossible with such a flagrant breach of the ceasefire.”
