After surpassing the $650 million mark at the box office, Ryan Gosling’s science-fiction hit Project Hail Mary is now available to stream at home on digital video-on-demand platforms like Prime Video, Apple TV and more.
Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with a screenplay by Drew Goddard, the movie is based on the bestselling 2021 novel of the same name by “The Martian” author Andy Weir. Gosling plays Ryland Grace, the sole survivor of a last-chance mission in space that is critical to the survival of humanity. Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung and Milana Vayntrub also star.
“Science teacher Ryland Grace wakes up on a spaceship with no recollection of who he is or how he got there,” the synopsis reads. “As his memory slowly returns, he soon discovers he must solve the riddle behind a mysterious substance that’s causing the sun to die out. As details of the mission unravel, he calls on his scientific training and sheer ingenuity, but he may not have to do it alone.”
Project Hail Mary has already became a 2026 box office hit, making $656 million worldwide, including $328.3 million in domestic sales and $328 million in international sales, per Box Office Mojo. The film, which is being marketed as Amazon’s first original blockbuster, needed to earn at least $500 million to break even, according to Variety, and it did just that, plus more.
The movie has also been a success with critics and audiences alike. It currently holds a 94% critics’ score and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. G. Allen Johnson, a staff writer for the San Francisco Chronicle, praised the feature as “a masterpiece of a family popcorn movie, with eye-popping hand-crafted production design and outstanding creature design and puppetry work.”

Project Hail Mary is currently available to stream on video-on-demand platforms, including Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango At Home. You can purchase the interstellar film for $24.99 or rent the film for $19.99. For rentals, you have 30 days to start watching the video and 48 hours to finish once started.

Project Hail Mary will be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on Aug. 11, 2026, according to Blu-ray.com.
Which Streaming Service Will Project Hail Mary Eventually Land On?

Project Hail Mary is being distributed by Amazon MGM Studios, which has expanded its theatrical strategy following Amazon’s 2022 acquisition of MGM. The New York Times reported in April 2025 that the studio plans to release around 14 major commercial films in theaters worldwide each year.
In the past, Amazon’s theatrical release strategy varied widely. Some films, like Air, received a 37-day exclusive theatrical window before becoming available digitally, while others, such as Red One, arrived on Prime Video relatively quickly after debuting in theaters.
According to The Times Amazon MGM Studios movies are expected to spend about 45 days in theaters before arriving on digital video-on-demand platforms and eventually Prime Video. However, for Project Hail Mary, the film arrived on digital platforms a bit later, on May 12, 2026, 53 days after its U.S. theatrical release on March 20, 2026.
When Will Project Hail Mary Be Available to Stream On Prime Video?
An official streaming release date for Project Hail Mary has not yet been announced. Now that the movie is available digitally, viewers may still have to wait anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of months before it’s added to Prime Video’s streaming library. Stay tuned for official updates.
