President Donald Trump on Saturday threatened to withdraw his endorsement from Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., a staunch MAGA loyalist and conservative firebrand, over her continued support for Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky.—potentially jettisoning one of his longtime supporters as ousting Massie has emerged as one of the president’s top political priorities.

Key Facts

In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump asked if anyone was interested in running against Boebert, whom he called “Weak Minded,” later insulting her by insisting “anybody who can be that dumb deserves a good Primary fight!”

Trump also called her a “carpetbagger” for running for reelection in a more conservative new district in 2024, and said she was competing with Massie for “Worst ‘Republican’ Congressman in the History of our Country.”

This is the second time recently Trump has attacked one of his former most loyal allies in Congress, previously targeting former Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who later resigned from the legislature.

In her own post on X, Boebert said she “saw the President’s post” and was not “mad or offended,” proclaiming her loyalty to the MAGA movement while also insisting “I knew the risks when I agreed to stand by my friend Thomas Massie.”

Greene pointed out on Sunday morning that herself, Boebert and Massie were three of the four Republicans who joined Democrats to vote for a discharge petition forcing a House vote to release the Epstein files, alongside Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., who is running for governor of her home state instead of standing for reelection.

Key Background

Trump’s spat with Boebert seems to be a direct result of her support for Massie, a libertarian-leaning Republican who has represented a district in northern Kentucky since 2012. In 2025, he became one of the most outspoken critics of the Trump administration’s botched attempt to release the Epstein files, eventually crossing the aisle to co-sponsor the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which forced the Justice Department to gradually post the remaining documents related to the investigations into late financier. Massie has since regularly appeared alongside Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., to blast the administration over failing to comply with the law mandating the full release of Epstein records. On Saturday, hours before Trump’s threat to withdraw his endorsement of Boebert, Massie shared photos on social media of a campaign event featuring Boebert.

What To Watch For

The Republican primary election for Massie’s seat will take place on Tuesday. Trump endorsed his primary opponent, Ed Gallrein, and asked his supporters to “vote the bum out.”. The primary for Boebert’s seat in Colorado will take place on June 30.

Tangent

Trump has recently racked up a number of Republican primary victories ahead of November’s midterms. Earlier this month, five Indiana state senators who previously rejected a redistricting effort in their state lost primary challenges from Trump-backed opponents. Trump scored an even bigger victory on Saturday when Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., lost the Republican Senate primary to challenger Rep. Julia Letlow, R-La. Cassidy, a medical doctor who served two terms in the Senate, was one of three active GOP senators to vote for Trump’s conviction after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot—alongside Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, and Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine.

Crucial Quote

In an interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos on Sunday, Massie brushed off Cassidy’s primary loss and blamed “three billionaires from outside of Kentucky” for making his race into what Politico reported was the most expensive House primary fight in history. “You can tell that I’m ahead in the polls and they’re desperate,” Massie said. “That’s why they’re sending the secretary of war to my district tomorrow. That’s why the president’s losing sleep and tweeting about this. That’s why AIPAC has dumped another $3 million into my race this weekend, is because they’re panicked, and they really haven’t been able to gain a lead in this race.”
