VidantaWorld Mexico Open announced new event dates of October 29 through November 1 to coincide with Día de Muertos and several exciting hotel openings.

This will mark the fifth time the Mexico Open has been held at VidantaWorld and its fifth consecutive year on the PGA Tour schedule. VidantaWorld sought to elevate the status of the event from the Korn Ferry Tour and other tours, and it continues to enhance the resort experience during and after the tournament.

The resort features several changes to its property in Puerto Vallarta, including the opening of a theme park called BON and a new Cirque du Soleil show, Ludo. Changes will also happen to the course. The Vidanta Vallarta Course, a par 71 measuring 7,436 yards, will be rerouted to place greater emphasis on the final stretch of holes. The revised routing brings holes 18, 9, 1, and 10 into a tighter competitive core, improving flow, broadcast sightlines, and on-site movement while preserving the strategic demands players expect from a TOUR venue.

For golf enthusiasts, the resort has two 18-hole championship golf courses. The Greg Norman-designed Vidanta Vallarta Course (Nuevo Vallarta) hosts the Mexico Open, while the Nayar Course (Nuevo Vallarta), a par-70 Jack Nicklaus design, provides a strong test of golf. The Lakes Course (Nuevo Vallarta) is a 10-hole par-3 course that can be played in the evening under the lights.

“When Tony Finau arrived, he wanted to play The Lakes lighted golf course and came into the pro shop, but there were no tee times available,” Angel Gomez said. “Our last tee time was 8:30, but he said, ‘Please, my son and I would like to play.’ I told Tony, ‘Please take my tee time,’ and he invited me and my three kids to play with them.”

VidantaWorld offers something other tournaments cannot. For participating players, their families are treated to an immersive vacation experience while their dad or husband competes in the tournament.

“Every time he comes to the VidantaWorld tournament, each night he practices with his son on The Lakes,” Gomez said. “In 2023, when he won the tournament, that Saturday night he was out there playing with his son with so much joy.”

Families are treated to 2,500 acres of luxury. VidantaWorld has more than 40 bars and restaurants, two spas, a one-mile-long beachfront, a large fitness facility, a lazy river, and multiple pools. In partnership with its concert series, Ludo, and other nightly live shows, the resort ensures guests always have something to do.

“I would maybe put Cameron Young or Cameron Champ down the waterslide,” Gomez said when asked which professional golfer he would most like to see at the waterpark.

Those visiting the resort to watch the tournament will also have opportunities to play, as some golf facilities remain open during the event. Players during previous editions of the Mexico Open could often be found on the par-3 course under the lights.

The Nuevo Vallarta Course will shut down approximately three weeks before tournament play to optimize course conditions. During non-tournament weeks, the paspalum greens run at 11.5 to 12 on the Stimpmeter, but with a few tweaks they can reach speeds of 13 for the Open.

The grass performs well in the brackish conditions common to seaside golf courses and offers excellent chipping surfaces. The crisscrossing blades of grass raise the ball slightly off the ground, allowing for high-spin, zippy chips.

The tournament boasts a $6 million purse and awards 500 FedExCup points. The tournament is open to the public and tickets are available on The Mexico Open/VidantaWorld website.
