Julian Alvarez has agreed personal terms with FC Barcelona on a five-year contract according to reports from Argentina cited by Mundo Deportivo.

Dsports Radio relayed this information and added that while there is no deal between Barça and Atletico Madrid at present, the value of the transfer could be between €120 and €125 million ($140 to $145.5 million) for a player which cost Atleti $110 million in 2024.

As reported before the weekend, Barça have already launched a bid of $116 million (€100 million) for Alvarez which Mundo Deportivo confirmed was submitted via email.

On Monday, Atleti president Enrique Cerezo issued a hands-off warning to Barça and Paris Saint-Germain, who reportedly agreed with the Rojiblancos to put off formal negotiations for Alvarez until after the Champions League final won on penalties against Arsenal in Budapest on Saturday.

“Julian Alvarez is an Atletico Madrid player, not just for this past season, but for many others,” Cerezo said, pointing to Alvarez’s lengthy contract until 2030.

Julian Alvarez is waiting for his future to be resolved

Helping his country prepare to defend its World Cup title won in Qatar, with Alvarez one of the protagonists alongside idol Lionel Messi, the 26-year-old is currently in Kansas.

Before Argentina’s debut in the North America-held tournament, Alvarez will play against Honduras on June 6 in a friendly before another follows versus Iceland on the 9th.

Once more, he’ll battle with Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez to impress Lionel Scaloni and be picked as a striker for Group J fixtures that pit the Albiceleste in battles with Algeria, Austria and Jordan.

FC Barcelona fans are growing impatient with the Julian Alvarez saga

Back in Catalonia and across the Culer nation, Barça fans are losing patience with the Alvarez saga as you can gauge by taking a quick glance at X, formerly known as Twitter.

They’ve perhaps been spoiled in recent days with how swiftly the Anthony Gordon transfer for $93 million (€80 million) from Newcastle United seemed to come out of nowhere and then get wrapped up by Friday.

Some feel that the Julian Alvarez deal will hinge on how much the player pushes for his exit. He’s said to be unconvinced by the sporting project he bought into at the Metropolitano two years ago when fleeing Manchester City, and should put his foot down by effectively staging a mutiny that will force Atleti’s hand.
