At the age of 67, and after decades in the music industry, Madonna can still draw a crowd. The superstar performed to what may have been thousands of people yesterday (June 4) in Times Square. She sang several songs from her Grammy-winning album Confessions on a Dance Floor, including singles “Hung Up,” “Get Together” and, of course, “I Love New York,” but that wasn’t the purpose of the event.
In less than a month, Madonna will hope to strike lightning twice when she releases Confessions II. The spiritual sequel to the 2005 full-length had already produced two singles by the time Madonna took to the stage, and she used the moment to unleash a third. “Love Sensation” was quickly shared to streaming platforms and download storefronts, and unsurprisingly, it has become an immediate bestseller in the United Kingdom.
Madonna Tops iTunes With “Love Sensation”
Madonna’s “Love Sensation” sits atop the iTunes Top Songs chart in the U.K. It’s the beginning of a new tracking period, and Fridays are often the most competitive moment to share new music. Even as several musical superstars sit just behind her – at least for the time being – Madonna can claim the biggest new arrival so far this week.
Madonna Sells Two Versions of “Love Sensation”
Multiple versions of “Love Sensation” are selling well across the Atlantic at the moment. As one version of “Love Sensation” sits at No. 1, the radio edit appears at No. 17.
“Love Sensation” Follows “Bring Your Love” and “I Feel So Free”
“Love Sensation” is the third track released from Confessions II, though whether it is a proper single or a promotional cut is yet to be seen. Both tunes that the pop icon has delivered this year – “Bring Your Love” with Sabrina Carpenter and “I Feel So Free” – also rank among the 100 bestselling on iTunes in the U.K. The collaboration appears at No. 57, while “I Feel So Free” sits at No. 79. Both of those tunes have already become chart hits in the U.K.
Madonna Fends Off Taylor Swift
The top 10 on the U.K.’s iTunes Top Songs list is packed with exciting new releases at the moment. Madonna fends off “I Knew It, I Knew You” by Taylor Swift, which the singer wrote and recorded for the movie Toy Story 5. In America, the country cut leads the same roster, but in the U.K., listeners seem to prefer Madonna, at least at this early time.
Muse’s “Nightshift Superstar” comes in at No. 3, while “Passenger,” the latest single from singer-songwriter Alex Warren, starts at No. 5. Only Ariana Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me” breaks up a streak of debuts within the top five. That tune is just over a week old and still performing well in the U.K. In the next few hours, the song may very well earn the singer and actress her eighth leader on the Official Singles chart.
