Spanish soccer giant Real Madrid has announced the free transfer of Ibrahima Konaté from Liverpool through an official statement published on Thursday morning.
“Real Madrid C. F. and Ibrahima Konaté have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2030,” the short correspondence read.
Premier League outfit Liverpool wasn’t mentioned, yet Konaté is the second big name to swap Anfield for the Bernabeu in the past two summers.
In the build-up to the 2024/2025 season, Trent Alexander-Arnold famously ended a 21-year association with his boyhood club to join Los Blancos.
Unlike Konaté, Alexander-Arnold isn’t currently representing his country at the 2026 World Cup being played in North America.
Head coach Thomas Tuchel overlooked the right back for England, but Dider Deschamps has picked Konaté to feature for France alongside now fellow Madrid teammates Kylian Mbappé and Aurelien Tchouameni.
Konaté is finding it hard to break up a central defensive partnership formed by Arsenal’s William Saliba and Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano for Les Bleus.
He’ll find similar competition in the Spanish capital, where Antonio Rudiger, Dean Huijsen and an injured Eder Militao are among the high-profile options at Jose Mourinho’s disposal.
Konaté Transfer Is Real Madrid President Florentino Perez Again Keeping His Word
With this free transfer, coupled by Bernardo Silva’s announced on Wednesday, Perez continues to keep his word to Real Madrid fans.
On the road to re-election, he vowed to land three new signings including Mourinho and Konaté. The other name of the trio is Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumrifes, who will give Alexander-Arnold a tough time for minutes at right back once his reported $23 million (€20 million) release clause has been activated.
With Marc Cucurella as well, however, Perez has thus far landed three new signings and a head coach for Real Madrid with Dumfries on the way.
Before the summer transfer window is out, a new midfielder might be added to the pack. According to MARCA, Enzo Fernandez is a top target in the center of the park, who BBC Sport says will cost Real Madrid around $159 million (£120 million) to get out of his Chelsea contract.
