The National Parks Service plans to drain the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool again after Independence Day, a deputy director said in a court filing Wednesday night, to repair damage to the lining the Trump administration claims was damaged by vandals.

Key Facts

The filing was part of the ongoing case challenging the Trump administration’s changes to the Reflecting Pool.

In a signed declaration, National Parks Service deputy director of operations Frank Lands said the service plans to begin draining the pool after July 4 to “conduct repairs, including assessing and repairing any damage to the lining.”

Lands’ statement also provided details of the damage, which he said included damage to the caulk over the pool’s foam sealant caused by “a sharp knife or razor” and damage to the “delaminating surface material.”

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
