FC Barcelona has officially confirmed another first team transfer out of the club on Tuesday afternoon in Catalonia.

“FC Barcelona and AS Monaco have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ansu Fati,” a statement began.

“The 23-year-old striker puts an end to his time as a Barça player after having played a total of 123 official games with the first team, in which he has scored 29 goals. The Club reserves a percentage of a future sale,” it added.

No figures for the sale were given, but those are believed to be $12.5 million (€11 million) heading Barça’s way from Monaco while it retains 30% if he is sold on.

The sale is no surprise to Culers. Ansu headed to Monaco on loan for the 2025/2026 season after being unable to impress Hansi Flick, and clearly enjoyed life in Ligue 1 while netting 11 goals.

Talks of a deal nearing had been reported on for some time. And now, on June 30, a permanent arrangement has been finalized whereby Fati leaves the club that scouted him as a 10-year-old from Sevilla FC.

Furthermore, this date is important because Barça can include the sale in their records for the end of the financial year which is also June 30.

Ansu Fati will always be cherished by FC Barcelona fans

Though calling him a modern day club legend might be a bit of a stretch, Ansu will be remembered fondly by Culers.

This was the Lamine Yamal of his day, who broke through to the first team in 2019 as a 16-year-old and similarly smashed a number of youngest goalscorer and appearance maker records for club and country.

Thought of as the next coming out of La Masia, Fati was given Lionel Messi’s number 10 shirt when the Argentine fled to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in 2021.

In a cautionary tale of what can happen when overloading a young talent, however, injuries severely blighted Ansu’s legacy at the Spotify Camp Nou.

He was unable to earn regular minutes under Xavi Hernandez or Flick. And now, after a third loan spell away from the club, he’s left it for good aged 23.

Still relatively young, however, who’s to say that Ansu can’t kick on in France and return to FC Barcelona one day.
