Director Curry Barker’s Obsession, starring Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston, is already developing a huge audience on streaming, just days after the indie horror movie blockbuster made its home video debut.

Released in theaters on May 15, Obsession follows the harrowing path of Bear (Johnston), a lovelorn music store employee who has a hopeless crush on his co-worker, Nikki (Navarrette).

Since Bear can’t muster the courage to reveal his true feelings to Nikki and feels stuck in the friend zone, he uses a new-age novelty item — the One Wish Willow — to wish she would love him more than anyone in the world. Much to his amazement, Bear’s wish is granted, but as Nikki becomes dangerously obsessed with him and eventually resorts to deadly behavior to protect their love, he discovers he has only one way out of what has devolved from a wish to a curse.

Rated R, Obsession also stars Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless and Andy Richter. Obsession was released on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday following a 45-day theatrical window.

Still in theaters, Obsession through Friday has earned nearly $242.2 million domestically and $137.3 million for a worldwide box office tally of $379.5 million against the film’s $750,000 production budget before marketing.

‘Obsession’ Is No. 1 On PVOD Charts On Prime Video, Fandango At Home And Apple TV

As of Saturday, Obsession is No. 1 on Prime Video’s Top 10 list of purchased movies in the U.S., ahead of Citizen Vigilante, which is at No. 2. No. 3 on the list is The Devil Wears Prada 2, which debuted on PVOD the same day this week as Obsession. Michael and Mortal Kombat II round out Prime Video’s top five.

Obsession is also No. 1 on Fandango at Home’s list of the site’s Top 100 movies on PVOD in the U.S., while The Devil Wears Prada 2 is currently at No. 2. Citizen Vigilante, Project Hail Mary and Michael round out Fandango at Home’s PVOD Top 5. According to Flix Patrol, Obsession is also the No. 1 movie on PVOD in the U.S. this week.

After spending its first seven weekends in the top five at the domestic box office, Obsession is projected by Deadline to drop to No. 6 in the film’s eighth frame with $5.1 million from 2,640 North American theaters.

Given the film’s resiliency, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if the film surges and takes No. 5 from Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day, which Deadline projects will earn $5.5 million from 2,702 theaters domestically.
