Tina Turner enjoyed a recording career that spanned more than three decades. She got her start as one half of Ike & Tina, and eventually, she broke out and made a name for herself, reaching greater heights on her own than she had with her one-time spouse.
Though she was not always on top of the charts, Turner continued to record music until 1999, when she dropped Twenty Four Seven, her tenth and final solo collection. The singer’s prior album, Wildest Dreams, was recently reissued to celebrate its thirtieth anniversary. The new edition came with a remastered version of the original set, as well as previously unreleased live recordings and other goodies that ensured longtime Turner fans purchased the full-length. Wildest Dreams becomes a hit all over again in the United Kingdom this week, and Turner scores another bestseller years after her passing.
Tina Turner Debuts Wildest Dreams
Wildest Dreams appears on two tallies in the U.K. this week, and it debuts on one of them. Turner’s second-to-last release opens on the current edition of the Official Albums Sales chart, the U.K.’s rundown of the top-selling titles of any length and any genre. Wildest Dreams is new at No. 26.
Tina Turner Scores Another Bestseller
Turner has now scored a dozen appearances on the Official Albums Sales chart. Half of all of those bestsellers first hit the most competitive sales tally in the U.K. in the years since her passing. Turner died in May 2023, and the following month, she scored three new bestsellers. The late, great superstar’s most recent top performer on the Official Albums Sales chart, What’s Love Got to Do With It, arrived in May 2024. That set spent one frame at No. 35 and then dropped away. Turner last rose higher than she sits at the moment in December 2023, when Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll topped out at No. 4.
Wildest Dreams Returns to the Physical Sales Chart
Wildest Dreams sold well enough to not only debut on the Official Albums Sales chart, but also return to the Official Physical Albums ranking. As its name suggests, the roster details the top-selling titles on CD, cassette and vinyl. This time around, Turner’s project reappears at No. 26 – exactly where it launches on the Official Albums Sales tally.
Wildest Dreams Once Climbed Into the Top 10
While Wildest Dreams has never before landed on the main sales roster in the U.K., Turner debuted the release on the Official Physical Albums chart back when it was new, in April 1996. Wildest Dreams launched at No. 4 on that tally. At the time, that position marked a new career high point for the vocalist.
In fact, No. 4 remains the highest Turner has ever climbed on the Official Physical Albums chart, and she’s reached that position with not only Wildest Dreams, but also Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
With 44 weeks on the physical rundown to its credit, Wildest Dreams has now spent half as much time on the roster as Simply the Best, which brought the superstar to the Official Physical Albums chart for the first time in February 1994. Wildest Dreams continues to hold as Turner’s second longest-charting release.
