Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear formally requested Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., update constituents on the state of his health on Wednesday as McConnell has been hospitalized since June 14 without disclosing why.

Beshear, a Democrat, wrote in a letter to McConnell, “over the last several weeks, Kentuckians have grown increasingly concerned about the current state of your health and wellbeing, and ability to hold office in the United States Senate,” adding, “as governor, I request that you fully updated Kentuckians regarding the current status of your health.”
He said he believes the situation “requires clear communication about one’s ability to serve.”
