Here’s What You Need To Know About Cyclosporiasis Outbreak: Doctor

A recent outbreak of cyclosporiasis—a foodborne illness caused by a microscopic parasite contracted from eating contaminated food, typically fresh produce—has impacted at least 34 states across the country. Earlier this week, the CDC reported close to 7,000 confirmed or suspected cases nationwide, but the agency warned that because the illness is typically both underdiagnosed and underreported, the actual number of cases is likely much higher. Dr. Omer Awan, a physician and senior public health contributor for Forbes, joined “Forbes Newsroom” to discuss.
