Well, Apple TV has Stick, and now Netflix has The Hawk, another unconventional, comedic golf story tracing at least some roots back to Happy Gilmore. Netflix dropped season 1 of The Hawk this week, and fans who have binged the show, and it’s easy to binge, are wondering about season 2.
Here’s everything I can gather about a potential season 2 of The Hawk, including updates about what matters most: its actual performance.
Will The Hawk Get A Season 2?
- The Hawk has already risen to #1 on Netflix’s top 10 list a few days after release.
- The Hawk got 4.8 million views on 24.7 million viewing hours last week, and Netflix says the show “swings to a strong debut.”
- Those figures put it somewhere in the middle of the pack in terms of Netflix comedy debuts, below the likes of FUBAR, The Four Seasons and Running Point, but above Boots, Tires and Unstable.
- That’s not great, but with a reported $5-7 million budget per episode and a significant California tax break, the viewership-versus-cost debate could work in its favor.
- Will Ferrell is a significant draw here, and it would be rather unwise/embarrassing to cancel a series that has landed such a high-profile comedy star. That said, FUBAR had Arnold Schwarzenegger, all those initial views, and the show was cancelled after two seasons. But…it did get two seasons.
So, The Hawk is number one on Netflix in the US and the service is bragging about it. There are other factors to consider, but all of this would seem to indicate that season 2 renewal is likely to happen in the end. Whether it survives the “Netflix season 2 drop-off curse” would be another story. However, hopefully with a show like this, it would not be too long between seasons.
When Would The Hawk Season 2 Be Released?
In terms of that timing, The Hawk started filming in September 2025, ahead of its release here in July 2026, 11 months later. That is very good in the current state of the industry. However, that would require a fast greenlight and a quick filming start to avoid pushing it further toward a year and a half. But these days a year and a half is “fast,” practically, barring some exceptions.
The Hawk isn’t going to win any awards. Its 27% Rotten Tomatoes score is among the worst of Will Ferrell’s entire career. Audience scores are better at a 64%, but that’s far from glowing. Still, season 2 does seem likely provided The Hawk has some staying power here.
