Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway’s summer movie smash The Devil Wears Prada 2 is attracting massive viewership numbers on Hulu on Disney+ less than a week after the film made its streaming video on demand debut on the subscription platform.
The long-awaited sequel to the 2006 hit The Devil Wears Prada opened in theaters on May 1 before making its debut on digital streaming via premium video on demand on June 30. A week after wrapping up its theatrical run on July 30, The Devil Wears Prada 2 made its debut on Hulu on Disney+ on July 30.
After earning $76.7 million from 4,150 North American theaters in the film’s opening weekend May 1-3, The Devil Wears Prada 2 went on to make $220.5 million domestically and 470.8 million internationally for a blistering worldwide box office tally of $691.3 million against a $100 million production budget before marketing costs.
Now, less than a week on SVOD, The Devil Wears Prada 2’s winning streak is continuing as a massively popular streaming title on Hulu on Disney+. According to The Wrap, Disney reported that fashion industry comedy drama amassed 15.2 million views in its first five days on the platform.
The industry trade publication reported that the film’s debut numbers on the streamer mark the biggest five-day debut since Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s superhero smash Deadpool and Wolverine pulled in 19.4 million views in 2024.
What Is ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ About?
The Devil Wears Prada 2 stars Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, who, after the events of the first Devil Wears Prada film, went on to become a successful newspaper journalist. However, in the ever-changing landscape of digital media, Andy and her colleagues are fired en masse from their newspaper, while Miranda Priestly’s (Meryl Streep) glossy Runway Magazine is facing some bumpy times as well.
When the ownership of Runway brings Andy back to the publication to help turn its fortunes around, she’s not only reunited with the ice-cold editor-in-chief Miranda, but Miranda’s former assistant Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt). Emily’s position as a senior executive at Dior has aligned her with access to people with deep pockets, which may be the key to saving Runway from being shut down or sold with no regard for the publication’s rich history.
Written and directed by the original Devil Wears Prada filmmaker David Frankel, the sequel also stars Stanley Tucci as Runway’s art director and Miranda’s right-hand man, Nigel Kipling. The film also stars Kenneth Branagh as Miranda’s husband, Stuart, Simone Ashley as Miranda’s assistant, Emily, Justin Theroux as Emily’s tech bro billionaire boyfriend, Benji, and Lucy Liu as Sasha, a reclusive supermodel and Benji’s ex-wife.
The Devil Wears Prada features dozens of cameo appearances, including singer Lady Gaga, NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns, several fashion industry notables, including Naomi Campbell, Ashley Graham, Winnie Harlow, Heidi Klum. Donatella Versace, Marc Jacobs, Domenico Dolce, Stefano Gabbana and Brunello Cucinelli.
