Reacher Season 4, starring Alan Ritchson as author Lee Child’s literary creation Jack Reacher, is back this week with new episodes featuring the lone wolf hero.
Following two Jack Reacher films starring Tom Cruise in 2012 and 2016, Child’s iconic book character was adapted once again in 2022, but as a streaming series on Prime Video. Starring Ritchson as the title character — an ex-Army Military Police investigator who travels from city to city with nothing more than a toothbrush — Reacher Season 1 was based on Child’s first book, 1997’s Killing Floor.
Reacher Season 2 returned in 2023 by bringing the author’s 11th book, Bad Luck and Trouble, to life, while Season 3 in 2025 adapted the seventh Jack Reacher book, Persuader. Season 4 of Reacher is based on Gone Tomorrow, Child’s 13th book in the series.
While Reacher has been a ratings and critical hit since the beginning of the Prime Video series, there was a fundamental shift between the way the books were adapted from Season 2 and Season 3, thanks to Ritchson’s urging.
“One thing I’ll say that I’ve really taken charge of is the action,” Ritchson told me in a Zoom conversation in 2025. “I was really unhappy with the action in Season 2 — the way that it was cut with some of the fights that we had. I didn’t like the way that it was directed. [I said], ‘I think we can do better in Season 3.’”
As a result, Ritchson added, Season 3 took “a faithful approach and the kind of thing that you see when you read the description of the action in the books.”
As revealed in early reviews of Reacher Season 4, the new episodes appear to follow in lockstep with the same sort of brutal, hard-hitting action Ritchson’s character delivered Season 3.
In Season 4, Reacher has a tragic encounter with a stranger on a subway in Philadelphia, which, upon his investigation, he finds is tied to a dangerous conspiracy involving the most powerful levels of government.
