The New York Yankees could lose second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the 2027 free agent class.

This year, his last before he can file for free agency, Chisholm Jr. is playing on a 1 year, $10.2 million contract.

There are lots of words to describe Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Electric comes to mind. So does exciting. And flamboyant.

In fact, mlb.com used the term electric when speaking of Jazz.

In a 2025 article, nypost.com had this blazing headline, “Jazz Chisholm’s acrobatic, dynamic defensive plays give Yankees big lift.”

So add acrobatic. And dynamic as words that describe Jazz.

Those are some very complimentary terms to describe a Major League Baseball player.

In 2025, Chisholm Jr. lived up to the hype.

He had a magnificent year, at the plate, and in the field.

In fact, Chisholm Jr. had an All Star season, the second of his career. He also made the All Star Team while with the Miami Marlins in 2022.

Last year for the Yankees, baseballreference.com noted, Chisholm Jr. hit .242/.332/.481/.813, with 15 doubles, a triple, 31 homers, and 80 RBIs. He stole 31 bases in 39 attempts, and won a coveted Silver Slugger Award.

Fast forward to this season, and the picture is not quite the same for the Yankees second baseman.

In fact, he at the start of play August 13, Jazz was hitting only .218, with 17 homers, and 48 RBIs. He has shown a steep decline in batting average, home runs, and RBIs, but he is still stealing bases. He has equaled his 31 stolen bases already, so he should easily eclipse that mark.

With roughly six weeks remaining in the regular season, Chisholm Jr. won’t come close to his 31 bombs of last year.

Will his decline in production impact his free agent market?

It will likely result in a contract worth less of an annual financial value, but it may not impact the number of years for his new deal.
