Only three other films have grossed more over their entire runs in North America—“Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens” ($936.7 million in 2015), “Avengers: Endgame” ($858.3 million in 2019) and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ($814.9 million in 2021), according to historical data from Box Office Mojo.
The weekend haul also puts “Spider-Man” just ahead of the fourth-biggest box office success in North America: “Avatar,” which grossed $785.2 million in 2009.
It only took “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” about three weeks to cross the $2 billion milestone globally, making it the second-fastest film to reach that sum, only behind “Avengers: Endgame”—which grossed $2 billion globally after 11 days in theaters.
What to Watch For
Whether the film will surpass the $814.9 million domestic haul from the previous “Spider-Man” film in 2021, after having already topped the film’s global gross of $1.9 billion. It’s unclear how much more success “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” will have, but this weekend’s sales after last weekend’s $145 million domestic gross could indicate continued success. No movie has ever grossed more than $1 billion at the domestic box office alone.

The other two big hits of the weekend shared a common theme: dinosaurs. “The End of Oak Street,” a new sci-fi thriller produced by former “Star Wars” director J.J. Abrams and starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor had a solid debut considering the still-stiff competition from “Spider-Man” and “The Odyssey.” The dinosaur thriller posted $21 million for third place at North American theaters, according to early estimates. “Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie” came in fourth place, posting an estimated $20.5 million for its own debut. That’s just behind the debut for the top film in from the beloved children’s franchise, “Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie,” which grossed $22.7 million when it opened in 2023.
