Benson Boone doesn’t have a brand new single to push at the moment, but his breakout smash is still doing most of the work when it comes to keeping him on the charts. The continued success connected to “Beautiful Things” is having an interesting ripple effect, one that’s helping his debut project outpace his newer set.
Fireworks & Rollerblades Passes American Heart
This week on the Billboard 200, Boone’s sophomore album American Heart slides from No. 39 to No. 40. That one-space dip means it now sits just behind his first full-length, Fireworks & Rollerblades, which lifts from No. 43 to No. 39. It’s a small shift, but a telling one.
American Heart Won on the Billboard 200
Fireworks & Rollerblades is in its sixty-ninth frame on the Billboard 200 — nearly a year and a half into its run — while American Heart is just six weeks in. The fact that one beats the other after so little time speaks to the undeniable popularity of the earlier drop, though American Heart did win in one respect.
Despite its shorter stay, the newer of the two studio efforts has scored the higher peak. American Heart opened at No. 2, while Fireworks & Rollerblades topped out at No. 6.
American Heart and Fireworks & Rollerblades on the Streaming Chart
The same dynamic is playing out on the Top Streaming Albums chart. Fireworks & Rollerblades slips from No. 34 to No. 36, while American Heart also falls, dropping to No. 42. Both projects have previously peaked at No. 5 on the streaming-focused tally, and the newer of the two is now the lower of the bunch.
“Beautiful Things” Drives Continued Success
The real driver behind this unusual performance is “Beautiful Things.” Boone’s breakout smash refuses to fade, and it’s what’s keeping Fireworks & Rollerblades alive. Streams, sales, and plays on radio affect not just where the tune appears on the Billboard tallies, but also where its parent album lands.
The track earns its seventy-ninth week on the Hot 100, where it currently ranks at No. 15. It slips one spot on the Adult Contemporary chart after spending more time at No. 1.
American Heart Tracks Gain Momentum
While Boone’s American Heart does include two currently-charting cuts — “Mystical Magical” and “Sorry I’m Here for Someone Else” — neither has matched the cultural staying power of “Beautiful Things.” Both songs are racking up spins on pop radio, even if they haven’t quite become blockbusters. For now, it’s Boone’s past that’s still shaping his present on the charts.
