If you’re looking for a new anime to watch, you should be alerted to a one that has suddenly set a full-on record on IMDB. That would be Takopi’s Original Sin.

Takopi’s Original Sin currently has a 9.1/10 overall on IMDB, but past that, it has set a record as the only anime to have all of its episodes (six so far) to have over a 9.0 rating. We have:

  • Season 1, Episode 1 – 9.5/10
  • Season 1, Episode 2 – 9.6/10
  • Season 1, Episode 3 – 9.3/10
  • Season 1, Episode 4 – 9.5/10
  • Season 1, Episode 5 – 9.7/10
  • Season 1, Episode 6 – 9.4/10

As you can see, if you average all those figures, that actually is more than a 9.1/10 that the show has gotten overall. Based on these episodes, the average is a 9.5/10, in fact. Over on Rotten Tomatoes there are…not critic or audience scores in to give out any figures. But IMDB has thousands in for each episode.

So, is this true? You can look up some of the other most popular animes ever, and ones like Attack on Titan or Demon Slayer or the more recent Solo Leveling all have at least some episodes in any given season below a 9.0.

What’s Takopi’s Original Sin all about? Here’s the synopsis:

“Happy alien, Takopi, lands on Earth with one mission: to spread happiness! When he meets Shizuka, a lonely fourth grader, he vows to bring back her smile using his magical Happy Gadgets. But as he uncovers the pain in her life, Takopi learns that true happiness may require more than gadgets.”

As you may expect, this was originally based on a Japanese web manga series before being turned into an anime, and it has aired from June to August of this year. With the last episode now out, that’s how we manage to get these scores. It’s true that individually, a show like Attack on Titan has some of the highest scored episodes in IMDB history, anime or not, but so far, Takopi doesn’t even have anything close to being below a 9.0 in its first season here. Perhaps that would change with a second season, but that wouldn’t’ be for a while yet. You can currently watch season 1 on Crunchyroll where, you guessed it, it has sky-high user scores, a 4.9/5 with 35,000 reviews in already.

So, with just six episodes, it certainly seems worth checking out what all the fuss is about. I’ll be doing so in short order here.
