Nobody — including Bob Odenkirk’s action comedy sequel Nobody 2 — has a chance at unseating Weapons at the top of the movie box office this weekend, according to pre-release projections.

Nobody 2 is the sequel to Odenkirk’s 2021 crime comedy, Nobody, about Hutch Mansell, a seemingly mild-mannered office worker. After a home invasion that put his wife, Becca (Connie Nielsen) and kids Sammy (Paisley Cadorath) and Brady (Gage Monroe) in peril, Hutch snaps back to his old ways as an off-the-books government assassin and goes scorched earth on the bad guys.

Odenkirk, Nielsen, Cadorath and Monroe are all back for Nobody 2, as is RZA as Hutch’s adopted brother and Christopher Lloyd as their father. In the sequel, Hutch faces a new, powerful criminal nemesis, Lendina, played by Sharon Stone.

Nobody 2, which is produced by Universal Pictures, is projected by Variety to earn $10 million to $12 million from 3,200 theaters domestically in its opening weekend, while the trade publication pegs Warner Bros./New Line Cinema’s horror thriller Weapons to earn $20 million to $22 million to hold onto the top spot.

Starring Julia Garner and Josh Brolin, Weapons shocked Disney’s family comedy Freakier Friday to seize the top spot at last weekend’s box office, earning $43.5 million from 3,202 North American theaters.

Freakier Friday, meanwhile, is projected to top Nobody 2 for the No. 2 slot with $10 to $12 million in its second weekend in theaters.

Weapons is projected to have a stronger second weekend showing by Box Office Pro, which forecasts a take of $22 million to $28 million in its second weekend. The box office prognosticator also projects Freakier Friday to earn $14 million to $18 million in its second weekend frame and forecasts a $7 million to $10 million opening for Nobody 2.

‘Highest 2 Lowest’ And ‘Americana’ Both Open In Limited Release This Weekend

The crime thriller Highest 2 Lowest — director Spike Lee’s latest film with Denzel Washington — is also a newcomer in theaters this weekend, although it’s arriving with less fanfare than most of Lee and/or Washington’s films.

Highest 2 Lowest — which is a modern-day interpretation of iconic director Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime thriller High and Low — is opening in 300 theaters in what appears to be more of a run to qualify for awards season.

The A24 release — which also stars Jeffrey Wright, A$AP Rocky, Ilfenesh Hadera and Wendell Pierce — is already set to hit streaming on Apple TV+ in September. The film debuted at the 2025 Cannes International Film Festival.

Also opening in limited release this weekend is the Sydney Sweeney action comedy Americana, a film that is undoubtedly attracting more attention over Sweeney’s controversial American Eagle “good jeans” ad.

Also starring Paul Walter Hauser, Halsey and Eric Dane, Americana is produced and being distributed by Lionsgate.
