I was so exhausted from traveling yesterday that I went to bed at 8:15pm, which is quite literally the earliest I’ve gone to bed in months or maybe years. It was probably too early, as I found myself awake for a pretty a stretch around 2am, but after a little snack and some time reading, I fell back asleep for a few more hours. All told, I think I probably slept a solid 9 hours, which is a lot for me. Then I got up and went to the gym. Healthy choices! Speaking of healthy choices, they say that solving puzzles is very good for your brain. Let’s uncover some words, shall we?

Strands is the newest game in the New York Times’ stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we’re given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which crosses from one side of the grid to another and reveals even more about the day’s theme.

Today’s Strands Breakdown

This was a tough grid to get started but once I had a couple they all came pretty quickly. I just couldn’t find anything for the longest time, though I found CHORE and knew right away it would be part of the spangram. It just took me until the very end of the puzzle to figure out what went with it.

I’ll just rank these chores in order of how much I despise them, starting with my favorite: LAUNDRY, GROCERIES, DISHES, VACUUMING, GARAGE. My garage is just daunting because it becomes the dumping ground for boxes of junk and other stuff we want out of sight, out of mind. Otherwise I might enjoy cleaning it more.
