Shawn Mendes Charts A Surprising New Hit With One Of His Classics

Shawn, the self-titled latest album by pop superstar Shawn Mendes, did not turn out to be one of his biggest commercial successes when it was released in the fall of 2024. In fact, it brought the talented singer-songwriter to a new low on the Billboard 200 when it launched at No. 26. Shawn became his first full-length to miss out on ruling the competitive tally, and despite the fact that four singles were released between August and November 2024, none of them could help make the collection a major seller.

Since that era concluded, Mendes has largely remained quiet, though this week he collects another hit on one of Billboard‘s most competitive songs tallies – not with a new composition, but rather with one of his oldest smashes, which debuts out of nowhere.

Shawn Mendes Debuts “Treat You Better” Globally

“Treat You Better” arrives on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. this week, launching at No. 182. The tally, along with the Billboard Global 200, was introduced by the chart company back in 2020, and it lists the most-consumed cuts of any style around the planet. It differs from the Billboard Global 200, as streams and sales from American consumers are entirely left out of its methodology.

Shawn Mendes Scores His Eleventh Career Appearance

Mendes has now accrued 11 career appearances on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. He last debuted a song on the rundown in August 2024, when “Why Why Why,” the lead single from Shawn, kicked off its time at No. 62, which would turn out to be its all-time peak. None of the other tracks from that full-length made it to the list.

“Treat You Better” Marks a New Low for the Singer

A new appearance on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. is always a reason to celebrate, although “Treat You Better” does mark a new low point for the Grammy nominee. Before this week, “Teach Me How to Love,” which stalled at No. 128 back in the winter of 2020, marked his worst performer on the tally.

Shawn Mendes May Soon Earn a Twelfth Smash

Mendes has also earned 11 appearances on the Billboard Global 200, though he’s done so with a slightly different collection of tracks. “Treat You Better” has yet to land on that roster, though if it continues to gain in popularity, the Canadian superstar may soon be headed for a twelfth smash.

“There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” Grows

It seems that interest in Mendes’s earlier tunes is on the rise all around the planet this week. As “Treat You Better” debuts on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” soars from No. 159 to No. 146 on the same rundown.

It is just one frame away from tying “Señorita,” his collaboration with then-girlfriend Camila Cabello, as his longest-charting song. “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” is up to 98 stays on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., while “Señorita” has managed one more.

“There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” Returns

That same single also reappears on the Billboard Global 200. “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” has climbed as high as No. 129, making it his second-lowest-peaking cut, and it is his second-longest-running with 37 turns on the tally to its credit. Only “Señorita,” with the inverse 73 frames, has held on longer.

Shawn Mendes Revives Illuminate Via Multiple Hits

Both “Treat You Better” and “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” are featured on Illuminate, the second album by Mendes. “Treat You Better” served as the project’s first smash, while “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” was included on a deluxe reissue.
