Lady Gaga’s New Album Only Manages To Debut On A Single Chart

Typically, when Lady Gaga releases a new album, there is quite a bit of fanfare. A decade and a half after she broke into the mainstream with her debut album, The Fame – which includes many of her biggest songs, such as “Just Dance,” “Poker Face” and “Paparazzi” – she remains one of the biggest stars in the world.

A little more than a year after she delivered her sixth solo full-length Mayhem, Gaga returned recently with a live set. Apple Music Live: Mayhem Requiem was recorded earlier this year at a concert in Los Angeles, and was released to coincide with her concert film of the same name hitting theaters for an extremely limited time.

Unlike many of her past projects, Mayhem Requiem has not turned out to be a major commercial success, although it was not meant to be a typical blockbuster. Gaga only minimally promoted the title, and this week, the album debuts on just one Billboard chart.

Lady Gaga Debuts Mayhem Requiem on One Chart

Mayhem Requiem launches on the Top Dance Albums chart, and only that list. The live release opens at No. 12 on the list of the most-consumed full-lengths and EPs classified by Billboard as dance. Both sales and streams play a role in where a title lands on the tally, but since Mayhem Requiem does not appear on either the Top Album Sales or Top Streaming Albums charts, it’s not clear via which metric won out.

Lady Gaga Scores Her Tenth Career Appearance

As Mayhem Requiem arrives, Gaga earns her milestone tenth career appearance on the Top Dance Albums chart. There aren’t many artists who have scored double-digit placements, but that doesn’t mean that the new set is a major winner.

Mayhem Requiem is Gaga’s first release to fail to crack the top 10 on the Top Dance Albums ranking. The recent effort easily becomes her lowest-peaking set yet. Before this week, only Born This Way: The Remix, which rose at No. 3, had failed to dominate. Her other eight charting titles have all led the charge.

Here are all of Lady Gaga’s No. 1s on the Top Dance Albums chart.

  • Artpop
  • Born This Way
  • Chromatica
  • Dawn of Chromatica
  • The Fame
  • The Fame Monster
  • Mayhem
  • The Remix

Lady Gaga Claims Four Dance Albums Charting Titles

Gaga claims four winners on this week’s Top Dance Albums chart, and Mayhem Requiem is not her highest-rising success. The Fame is steady at No. 1, and as it holds in first place, the career-making project earns its two hundred and fourth moment in the spotlight, extending its lead as the longest-running leader ever.

The original Mayhem, which passed a year on the Top Dance Albums rundown several months back, also occupies a space within the top 10 as it dips from No. 6 to No. 9. Only Born This Way, which hit 500 weeks on the chart just last time around, comes in beneath Mayhem Requiem. That Grammy-winning dance-pop project falls from No. 20 to No. 22.

Lady Gaga’s “Runway” Dances to New Highs

Almost all of Gaga’s albums and songs that appear on any Billboard chart fall from where they sat last time around. “Runway,” her collaboration with rapper Doechii, which the two women wrote and recorded for the Devil Wears Prada 2 soundtrack, manages to climb and hit new peak positions on both the Dance/Mix Show Airplay and Pop Airplay charts. “Runway” sashays to Nos. 18 and 21, respectively, on those lists.
