Real Madrid president Florentino Perez used his X account to announce Jose Mourinho as the new manager of the first team on Wednesday evening.
That’s if Perez wins re-election on June 7, when he’ll go head to head with Enrique Riquelme to battle for the right to stay as the 15-time Champions League winner’s leader.
Perez made his announcement while Riquelme was appearing on the El Hormiguero program on Spanish television.
Perez’s post used the caption “MOUcha historia para hacer”, which is a play on the Portuguese’s surname or nickname “Mou” and the Spanish word for “a lot”.
The phrase translates as a “a lot of history to be made”, which Perez promises if he wins at the polls.
“While on the television they talk and talk and talk…,” the announcement video begins, before Mourinho is shown in a Real Madrid shirt saying a simple “Si”, or “Yes”.
By the Spanish media, this has been taken as Perez announcing the rehiring of a figure he placed in the dugout in the early 2010s, when Mourinho was at his peak and regarded one of the best managers in the world.

Back then, Mourinho was charged with dethroning Pep Guardiola and one of the greatest club teams in history led by Lionel Messi.
Though Champions League glory eluded his Madrid side, it did win La Liga with a 100-point season and sent Guardiola off on a sabbatical tired with life in Spain.

Meanwhile back on Planet Real Madrid, Riquelme promised to deliver Rodri from Manchester City if he wins the election at the same time Perez has stated he’ll announce the club’s first big new signing on Thursday.
