For more than 30 years now – an anniversary that the band celebrated in 2025 – Deftones have been releasing some of the best, catchiest and most inventive alternative, hard rock and metal music. The group always bases its sound in the harder side of rock, but songs and even albums by the Grammy-winning outfit can be classified under several different genre labels.
That’s clearly evident when looking at the Billboard charts this week, where Deftones appear on multiple tallies, including several that focus on only one style or another. This time around, two different Deftones albums return to the Billboard rankings, and notably, they reappear on rankings centered around slightly varied subgenres in rock.
Deftones Return Around the Fur to One Chart
This week, the biggest winner for Deftones is Around the Fur. The group’s sophomore full-length, which was released back in 1997, is usually the top performer when it comes to the Deftones catalog, and that is true once again this period. Around the Fur bounds back onto on roster, the Top Alternative Albums chart, where it breaks back in at No. 21.
White Pony Also Returns to a Single Billboard Tally
Three years after Around the Fur catapulted Deftones to greater rock stardom than the band’s debut set, Adrenaline, the rockers released White Pony, another fan favorite. A quarter-century after it first became available, White Pony gallops back onto the Top Hard Rock Albums chart.
Just like the aforementioned Top Alternative Albums list, the roster is built using both sales and streaming data, and the most-consumed collections in each style earn a spot on the rankings each week. White Pony finds its way to No. 24, in second-to-last place, on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart. That is the only list where the group’s third LP can be found at the moment.
Around the Fur Appears on Six Lists This Week
While White Pony only lives on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart, Around the Fur takes up space on half a dozen rankings published by Billboard. It performs best on the list where it joins White Pony, as Around the Fur holds at No. 7 on the look at the most-consumed hard rock collections in the nation.
Aside from the aforementioned Top Alternative Albums chart, Around the Fur manages to climb on four additional tallies. It bounds back into the top 40 – settling at No. 40 – on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums ranking. Around the Fur is a top 20 success once more on both the Top Album Sales and Vinyl Albums rosters, as it surges to Nos. 18 and 19, respectively. On the Billboard 200, the all-encompassing register of the most popular albums and EPs in the U.S., regardless of genre, Around the Fur pushes 14 spaces north and makes a home at No. 150.
Deftones Score the Top Comeback on Multiple Charts
Notably, not a single title debuts on either the Top Alternative Albums or Top Hard Rock Albums charts this week, where the Deftones releases reappear. On the Top Hard Rock Albums ranking, White Pony is one of two returning favorites, and it beats The Colour and the Shape by Foo Fighters by just one space.
Over on the Top Alternative Albums ranking, Deftones once again score the most impressive comeback. Around the Fur beats System of a Down’s Toxicity, Fallen by Evanescence and Tame Impala’s Deadbeat, which reenter the alternative-only roster at Nos. 22, 24 and 25, respectively.
