Romantics never believed that Taylor Swift—the tortured poet of pop music—would sacrifice a fairytale wedding for a blowout party at Madison Square Garden, but here we are. An increasing pile of evidence suggests the billionaire bride will do just that when she holds a giant celebration this weekend at the world’s most famous arena.
According to reporting by the New York Times, Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce have booked the Garden—which can hold around 20,000 people and where Swift has performed eight times in her career—for a 100-person event on July 2 (likely a rehearsal dinner) as well as a second celebration for between 500 and 999 guests on July 3. There were also permits filed with the city by Winick Productions to close the streets around the venue from Thursday to midday Saturday on July 4th weekend.
Based on interviews with a half-dozen luxury event planning sources estimating everything from securing the iconic venue to elaborate florals and tight security, Forbes estimates the Swift-Kelce festivities will cost at least $20 million—on par with the lavish Venice nuptials of billionaire Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez that captured the world last summer.

CHAMPAGNE PROBLEMS, ARENA BUDGET
Los Angeles-based celebrity wedding planner Mark Seed—who also planned the weddings of Jennifer Lawrence to art gallerist Cooke Maroney and Swift’s close friend, producer Jack Antonoff to actress Margaret Qualley—has also been linked to this weekend’s festivities. Celebrity planners in New York frequently charge tens of thousands of dollars for such events and often take 10% to 20% of an overall wedding budget, meaning six-figure fees are commonplace for the largest and most luxe events. Renowned New York wedding and event planner Lindsay Landman estimates that the challenges of this particular wedding could push fees into the realm of 25%, which would mean at least a $5 million bill for planning alone.
A-list wedding and event planners have also tell Forbes that MSG—which could cost up to $5 million to rent for the weekend—will be broken up into separate themed spaces for cocktails, dinner and an after party with Swift-approved fanciful touches like garden-inspired pathways, soft lighting and sky-high wildflower installations. David Tutera, who designed weddings for Elton John, Jennifer Lopez and other celebrities, says it would be possible to bring in “trucks” of trees and plants “to make it feel like you’re out in the woods, in a very romantic and special space. I feel like that’s the vibe for her, and for him. It’s not over the top, it’s soft, etherical, magical, feminine, and feeling like you’re walking through the woods.”
Forklifts were seen Tuesday afternoon unloading semitrucks worth of wrapped decor and boxes labeled “trees” into the Garden, and the New York Post’s Page Six speculated the couple would have a castle built inside the venue. The flower budget alone could cost upwards of $3 million, according to New York City wedding planner Sonal Shah, not including millions more in draping to cover thousands of MSG seats, as well as chandeliers to lower the ceiling, floor covering and wrapping, temporary stages, lighting, event rentals and other decor that could easily cost another $3 million.
Landman, who served as the 2022 wedding planner for former Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg, said she expects catering and bar costs will amount to at least $1,250 per person—or about $1 million for 750 guests—plus another $75,000 for kitchen rentals and service. Reports indicate Swift has personally curated food stations for the MSG celebration with dishes from her favorite New York City restaurants, which include West Village favorites Via Carota and Waverly Inn and Midtown’s Monkey Bar. Even if Swift is sourcing menu items from a variety of restaurants, plus an assortment of fine wines and cocktails to pair them with, celebrity party planner Colin Cowie says it’s the required “world class” service from wait staff that will make or break the event—and show up in the bottom line.
As far as entertainment, the bar is higher than the nearby Empire State Building. Swift is, of course, friends with some of the biggest names in entertainment, which means the roster of potential performers rivals the Grammy Awards. According to the Page Six, Tim McGraw and Stevie Nicks are scheduled to perform this weekend. (Swifties know that the 2006 song “Tim McGraw” was the singer’s first hit at 16 years old, and that she wore a custom-made “Stevie Knicks” t-shirt to Game 4 of the NBA Finals, not coincidentally at Madison Square Garden.) And Swift has already joked that it would be “hard to stop” Ed Sheeran from taking the stage.
But even if her famous friends perform for free, there are extensive production costs in a union house like MSG to make performances actually happen. Top talent needs top equipment, sound engineers, lighting and staging, all of which is likely to cost upwards of $250,000, according to Landman. An elite wedding band—in the realm of at least $75,000—seems likely, plus musical ensembles for the ceremony and cocktail hour, among other surprises for guests.
Top photographers for luxury weddings in New York City often start at about $65,000 for a one-day event, Landman said, but a high-profile client like Swift would require a copyright buyout, she added, which brings the rate up significantly. Two nights of photography and videography could add up to $300,000.
The couple’s celebrity guest list—and likely star-studded bridal party—is expected to include Selena Gomez, Zoë Kravitz, Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, the Haim sisters, Patrick Mahomes, Gracie Abrams, Phoebe Bridgers and Lana Del Rey. Several members of the Kansas City Chiefs have also reportedly booked hotel rooms for dates around July 3 at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, where suites can each run up to $1,500 per night over the holiday weekend. Shah says it’s “almost expected” that the bride and groom foot the hotel bill for guests at such events—and not every guest will stay at the same hotel—which can be estimated at about $3,000 per couple for the weekend at a conservative total of $1.2 million.

SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING NYPD BLUE
With an A-plus guest list like that, attendees will also require special transportation—think blacked-out buses and luxury SUVs—to arrive in relative secrecy, utilizing the underground access to MSG. Secure transportation alone could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and that’s not including private security at the Garden itself.
Don Aviv, CEO of the New York City security consulting firm Interfor International, believes security was a major factor in choosing the venue in the first place. The arena is capable of safely hosting crowds, it has no windows, no potential for drone fly-overs and secure entrances and exits. Luxury planner JoAnn Gregoli told the Wall Street Journal celebrity couples tend to choose venues as secure as “anywhere a president would stay” for their big events. Aviv expects the wedding will have “Met Gala-level” security, and that planning for an event such as the Swift-Kelce wedding has likely been in motion since the date was chosen. Between personal protection teams for the couple and their families, physical and cyber security at the Garden, vetting of staffers and securing hotels for VIP guests, Aviv estimates at least 200 armed and unarmed security personnel will be needed for the wedding weekend.
Joseph Sordi, CEO of Strategic Security Corp. and 20-year NYPD veteran, said personnel for an event of this scale could end up costing “well over $2 million,” including a team of executive protection agents, uniformed security officers, access control specialists, intelligence personnel, operations supervisors, K-9 teams, traffic coordinators, medical personnel and technical surveillance countermeasure specialists.
Forbes’ $20 million estimate doesn’t include roughly $5 million to $10 million in police presence and traffic enforcement associated with closing streets around Madison Square Garden, which former New York City Traffic Commissioner Sam Schwartz says could fall on the shoulders of city taxpayers. “The city didn’t ask the NBA to pay for all the excitement around MSG two weeks ago,” he said in reference to the New York Knicks’ championship win, but added it’s “not unusual” for event hosts to step up and cover costs for their private affairs.
Swift and Kelce’s wedding guests and teams have all reportedly signed non-disclosure agreements promising to remain tight-lipped about the upcoming nuptials, which Cowie, who has planned parties for A-list celebs like Oprah Winfrey and Jennifer Aniston, says are common. He added that events of this scale are often so secretive even vendors don’t know who they’re working for until the day of. Cowie said he thinks all guests and vendors will be required to check their phones at the door—which the Times confirmed in reporting this week—and predicts Swift and Kelce’s PR teams will release photos live through the event to lessen the bounty on any leaks coming from inside.
First Dances
Nearly a dozen songs from the two albums released after Taylor Swift began dating Travis Kelce—2024’s The Tortured Poets Department and 2025’s The Life of a Showgirl—have plenty of lyrics that reference their love story. Here’s a sample:
Gareth Cattermole/Getty Images for TAS Rights Management
The Alchemy: “‘There was no chance trying to be the greatest in the league’ / Where’s the trophy? He just comes, running over to me.”
So High School: “Truth, dare, spin bottles / You know how to ball, I know Aristotle.”
The Fate of Ophelia: “Pledge allegiance to your hands / Your team, your vibes.”
Opalite: “But now the sky is opalite / Oh my lord, never met no one like you before.”
Wi$h Li$t: “I just want you / Have a couple kids / Got the whole block looking like you”
Wood: “New Heights of manhood / I ain’t gotta knock on wood.”
Elizabeth Taylor: “All the right guys / Promised they’d stay / Under bright lights / They withered away / But you bloom.”

BEJEWELED (THE BRIDE’S VERSION)
As with any wedding, all eyes, of course, will be on what the billionaire bride will wear to walk down the aisle, but anyone who knows has clearly signed an NDA. The most pervasive rumor is that Swift will wear a gown by Vivienne Westwood, a nod to the ultimate (but fictional) New York bride Carrie Bradshaw, who wore a Westwood gown to her ill-fated wedding to Mr. Big in 2008.
A fully bespoke bridal couture gown from Westwood (who died in 2022) could cost anywhere from $40,000 to $100,000. The second-best-bet (for those looking at the odds on Kalshi and Polymarket) would be a custom gown by designers Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia of Monse, who were previously the co-creative directors of Oscar de la Renta. Monse doesn’t have a published bridal line or standard couture bridal pricing, but the cost would likely be comparable to Westwood. Custom reception and after-party looks—all of which are expected—would cost tens of thousands of dollars more, and fashion writers have their sights set on Ralph Lauren, Schiaparelli, Wiederhoeft or Dior. And those estimates don’t include jewelry (Swift is partial to high-end celebrity jeweler Lorraine Schwartz for major events), shoes or veils.
The Times has reported the event will be a Black Tie affair (think tuxedos for the men and floor-length gowns for the ladies). Swift’s high-profile guest list has unique access to the world’s top fashion houses, and the dress code could mean a veritable who’s who of designer pieces in the audience including from Chanel (for whom Margaret Qualley is a longtime ambassador), Saint Laurent (almost synonymous with Kravitz) and Oscar de la Renta (for whom Kloss frequently cites her love). Andy Reid, coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as several other team leaders will be wearing tuxedos from Kansas City’s Peters Clothiers after the store posted on Instagram earlier this month: “Getting ready for the Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift Wedding!”
The Last Great American Dynasty
Many reports say that Taylor Swift initially planned to hold her wedding to Travis Kelce at her oceanfront home in Rhode Island. It’s just one property in a $125 million real estate portfolio which Forbes estimates is more valuable than the groom’s entire net worth.
Beverly Hills mansion: $37.4 million
Rhode Island estate: $33.9 million
New York City penthouse: $17.6 million
New York City townhouse: $16.8 million
New York City loft: $9.5 million
Nashville house: $6.7 million
Nashville Music Row apartment: $3.6 million

THIS LOVE (RHODE ISLAND VERSION)
While many Swifties are overjoyed the couple is hosting a dizzyingly public wedding reception at the Garden—which backs up her own claim “everyone I’ve ever talked to” will be invited—a strong faction believes she alredy said “I do” in a smaller, intimate ceremony at her oceanfront Rhode Island estate, part of her $125 million real estate portfolio. The singer is known for her legendary July Fourth parties at the 11,000-square-foot home—often dubbed “Taymerica”—and it would be fitting for Swift to marry privately while throwing hints about the New York party to keep her obsessive fan base satiated. While the billionaire pop star could easily afford another elaborate wedding in Watch Hill, it would be hard to keep something under wraps in the tight-knit community. If she does indeed have a separate, more intimate official ceremony—tack on another $100,000-or-so to the total price tag for a backyard wedding on the coast.
And then there are the skeptics think the “wedding-palooza” at Madison Square Garden is just a distraction. RoseMarie Terenzio, former chief of staff to John F. Kennedy Jr. who helped plan his secret wedding to Carolyn Bessette in 1996, told CBS News she thinks the entire thing is a ruse. Terenzio said she thinks Swift will hold some kind of event for fans at MSG over the weekend, while getting married somewhere entirely different. Lifestyle and travel company founder Roman Chiporukha told the Journal his company has “booked multiple venues to keep outsiders guessing” for luxury events, and another security expert said he’s hired entire teams for events only to find out he was the decoy. Cowie told Forbes there is a “100%” chance the wedding won’t happen at MSG at all. “The whole world is obsessed with what’s going to happen and how it’s going to happen. I think they’ve done a really good job of confusing all of us,” Cowie said. “I think they’ve got us well fooled.”
