On June 25, Katy Perry returned with “Watch It Burn,” her first new single of 2026. The track arrived more than half a year after “Bandaids,” her previous most recent tune, and so far, neither pop-rock cut – which seem to bring Perry back to her earliest “I Kissed a Girl” days of stardom – is attached to any upcoming album.
Before “Watch It Burn” reaches charts around the world, a more-than-decade-old tune by the Grammy-nominated pop superstar rises on multiple rankings and even helps the singer-songwriter establish a new career high on one list.
Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away” Soars on Two Charts
Perry’s “The One That Got Away” is on the rise yet again on both of Billboard‘s worldwide rosters, the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. The first of those two related rankings details the most-consumed songs around the planet. The Billboard Global Excl. U.S. does exactly the same, though streams and sales from American music fans do not factor into its methodology, as it shows what the rest of the planet is listening to.
This frame, “The One That Got Away” pushes from No. 35 to No. 20 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. At the same time, it finds its way back into the top 40 on the Billboard Global 200, ascending from No. 41 to No. 31.
Katy Perry Hits a New Career Peak
Throughout much of spring – and now summer – 2026, “The One That Got Away” has been on quite a wild ride. The track went viral on TikTok earlier this year, with longtime lovers of the musician remembering the hit, while younger fans may have discovered it for the first time.
“The One That Got Away” quickly debuted on the two global charts, and week after week climbed higher and higher. Some time ago, “The One That Got Away” became Perry’s highest-ranking single on both lists. This time around, Perry breaks into the top 20 for the first time in her career on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., as “The One That Got Away” establishes a never-before-seen best showing. The same single returns to its previously-set peak on the Billboard Global 200, which it reached back in May.
Teenage Dream Produced Five No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100
Perry began promoting her album Teenage Dream months before the set arrived with the single “California Gurls,” a collaboration with Snoop Dogg. That track would turn out to be one of five in a row that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. After “California Gurls” came “Teenage Dream,” “Firework,” “E.T.,” which credited rapper Ye, and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).”
Teenage Dream was such a juggernaut that “The One That Got Away” was pushed as the sixth official single – a relatively uncommon number of tunes for most major pop albums – and it almost helped Perry break a record set by Michael Jackson’s Bad for the most No. 1 hits from one full-length. “The One That Got Away” peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 during its run. Instead of pushing more singles from the standard version of Teenage Dream, the superstar dropped a deluxe edition – Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection – which produced another No. 1 smash, “Part of Me,” and “Wide Awake,” which topped out at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Teenage Dream Continues to Appear on Multiple Lists
A decade and a half later, “The One That Got Away” has outpaced all of those tunes that have managed to appear on the global rosters – several of Perry’s biggest hits have yet to reach the rankings – and it has also helped Teenage Dream climb on multiple tallies in the U.S. throughout early 2026. At the moment, Teenage Dream is steady on the only two rosters where it appears. The Grammy-nominated set sits at No. 33 on the Top Streaming Albums chart, and it holds at No. 42 on the Billboard 200.
