Throughout her decades-long career, Bonnie Tyler recorded pop, country and soft rock music and scored hits with each style, but she is remembered primarily for her decade-defining rock smashes. Tunes like “Holding Out for a Hero” and the inescapable “Total Eclipse of the Heart” – which becomes a Billboard smash all over again whenever there is a major eclipse – cemented her status as a powerhouse, and they are still beloved to this day.
Tyler passed away earlier this week at the age of 75. Whenever such a talent departs this world, fans respond by turning to streaming platforms and websites like iTunes to stream and buy the biggest and most memorable tunes and albums from the artist, and currently, Tyler is the queen of iTunes in America.
Bonnie Tyler Rules iTunes Following Her Passing
On the iTunes Top Songs chart, which focuses on the bestselling individual cuts on the platform, eight of Tyler’s most popular tracks appear as bestsellers. Amazingly, she fills the highest three spaces. Her current performance is especially notable, considering the fact that it is Friday (July 10), the beginning of a new tracking week in the global music industry. Fridays are when the vast majority of musicians drop new releases, as it gives their work a full seven days in which to sell as well as possible and perhaps become charting wins.
Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” “Holding Out for a Hero” and “It’s a Heartache” sit at Nos. 1, 2 and 3, respectively.
Bonnie Tyler Fills the Top 40
A second edition of “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” labeled the single version, lands just beneath the top 10, making a home at No. 12. Tyler’s “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?” and “Straight From the Heart” are also present within the top 40, and they can be found at Nos. 28 and 37, respectively. In the lower reaches of the iTunes Top Songs chart, Tyler’s “If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man)” breaks in at No. 122, while “Together,” a collaboration with French electronic dance producer David Guetta and Hypaton, launches at No. 174.
Bonnie Tyler Pushes Ella Langley From No. 1
Tyler’s success on the iTunes Top Songs tally pushes Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” from the highest rung to No. 4. She outperforms several debuts from names like Anthrax, Shania Twain and the cast of the Broadway musical The Lost Boys, all of which begin their time within the top 10.
Bonnie Tyler Charts Several Albums in America
On the iTunes Top Albums chart, Tyler is also one of the most successful artists in terms of total number of bestselling releases, though she does not appear at No. 1. Several versions of Madonna’s latest Confessions II dominate the highest reaches of the tally at the moment, while The Very Best of Bonnie Tyler climbs into the uppermost region, landing at No. 10.
Several other traditional studio albums by the Grammy-nominated singer, including Faster Than the Speed of Night, Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire, Bonnie Tyler, Total Eclipse of the Heart and Wings, sell well enough in America to place at Nos. 17, 58, 87, 155 and 184, respectively.
