We have reached the final major championship in the men’s professional golf schedule for the 2026 season.

At Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England, the best players in the world will be looking to hoist the Claret Jug on Sunday at the conclusion of the 154th playing of the Open Championship.

Defending champion, Scottie Scheffler, coming off a missed cut at the Genesis Scottish Open will be looking for his first major win of the year. Meanwhile, back-to-back Masters champion Rory McIlroy will be looking to build on his resume and become the greatest European golfer to ever play the game.

While Scheffler and McIlroy will headline the event as usual, other storylines will undoubtedly grow as the Thursday’s first round draws closer. One of note to watch will be that of local boy Tommy Fleetwood, who grew up nearby and will be looking to win his first major.

The Open Championship was last played at Royal Birkdale in 2017, a year that saw Jordan Spieth lift the Claret Jug after a wild final round in which Spieth would go -5 through holes 14-17 to secure the victory.
