Formula 1 hits the iconic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps this weekend for the 10th round of the 2026 season, the Belgian Grand Prix.
The championship race has tightened up considerably following round nine’s British Grand Prix, with Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s lead now slashed to just 25 points over Mercedes teammate George Russell.
Antonelli had a strong start to the Silverstone weekend, claiming victory at Saturday’s sprint before securing pole position for the main race later in the day. Things didn’t come his way on Sunday however as he lost ground right at the start after being jumped by the two Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
While he managed to move up to second place after a few laps and appeared on course to challenge for what would have been his sixth grand prix win of the season, the Italian youngster suffered a mechanical failure on lap 41 that saw him drop down the field before settling for a point-less 15th place.
With that, Antonelli walked away from Silverstone with just eight points from his sprint win, bringing his points tally to 179 after nine rounds.

It was Leclerc who stood atop the podium on Sunday after a brilliant drive to finally celebrate his first-ever Silverstone victory and his first overall since the United States Grand Prix in Austin back in 2024. Thanks to that, the Monegasque man now sits in fourth place in the championship with 108 points so far to his name.
Meanwhile, Russell came only 0.427s short of his third win of the year, crossing the line in second place and cutting down the championship gap to his teammate and title rival Antonelli to 25 points – the equivalent of a race win.
Hamilton took third place in his home grand prix, with 32 points now separating him from Antonelli in the standings and only seven points between him and his former teammate Russell.
Heading to Spa-Francorchamps, Antonelli is well aware of the pressure he is under. His once-comfortable 66-point lead over Hamilton after the sixth round in Monaco has dwindled to just 25 points over Russell following Silverstone, which makes a victory this Sunday a must for him if he wants to avoid any more trouble in his maiden title bid.
On the other hand, both Russell and Hamilton will be keen to put even more pressure on Antonelli in the upcoming rounds and capitalize on any misfortune he might suffer in the hopes of catching him and turning the championship on its head.
