Jack Black and Jason Momoa’s A Minecraft Movie has officially wrapped up its run in theaters. How much money did it make at the box office?

Based on Mojang Studio’s classic Minecraft video game, A Minecraft Movie opened in theaters on April 4 and debuted on digital streaming via premium video on demand on May 13. The Warner Bros. film began its streaming video on demand run on Warner Bros. Discovery’s HBO Max platform on June 20.

A Minecraft Movie defied industry projections in its opening weekend, earning nearly $163 million in its first Friday to Sunday frame. The film also inspired a TikTok video craze in theaters, largely surrounding the film’s manic “Chicken Jockey” scene.

While theater owners initially complained about moviegoers wreaking havoc in some theaters, eventually one chain specifically hosted “Chicken Jockey” screenings and encouraged rowdy behavior.

According to box office tracker The Numbers, A Minecraft Movie’s last day in theaters was on Wednesday, July 2, when it earned $1,980 from 46 screens to bring its final domestic tally to $423,949,195. Coupled with the film’s international box office ticket sales of $531,200,000, A Minecraft Movie earned $955,149,195 worldwide.

The $955 million-plus box office number, of course, is the gross amount A Minecraft Movie made, not the film’s net. A Minecraft Movie, per The Numbers, had a $150 million production budget, which cuts into the gross, as well as the film’s marketing expenses, which weren’t officially reported.

In addition, the studio must pay a percentage of the box office sales to theater owners for exhibiting the movie, plus dole out residuals and other expenses related to the film.

How Does ‘A Minecraft Movie’ Rank At The 2025 Box Office To Date?

Of all the films released in 2025, A Minecraft Movie, as of Friday, is still the highest-grossing film domestically.

The film’s leading box office tally of $423.9 million might not be able to hold off its closest competitor for the top spot for long, however. Disney’s live-action version of Lilo & Stitch — which is still playing in 2,075 theaters — this weekend, is creeping up from the No. 2 spot with $411.8 million at the box office to date.

Lilo & Stitch is, however, the No. 1 film worldwide as of Friday with a worldwide gross of $977.6 million vs. A Minecraft Movie’s global tally of $955.1 million.

Viewers who missed A Minecraft Movie in theaters can currently catch the movie on PVOD on several digital platforms or on SVOD on HBO Max.
