The roommate of Tyler Robinson, the accused killer of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, said the alleged assassin returned home the day after the killing and said he wished “he hadn’t done that” in a video interview played in court on Thursday.

Key Facts

Portions of the interview conducted in April with Lance Twiggs, Robinson’s former roommate and romantic partner, were ordered redacted by Judge Tony Graf, but several answers to questions were played at a hearing on Thursday.

Twiggs said he first saw Robinson the morning after the shooting, when he asked him about text messages the two had exchanged the night before, the contents of which were not played in court on Thursday but were included in the indictment—including what appears to be a confession.

“I just asked him in person if what he said was true the night before, and he said it was,” Twiggs said when asked what Robinson told him in person the day after the shooting, adding “he started crying a little bit, and said he wishes he hadn’t done it.”

Twiggs said Robinson then paced around the apartment, before telling his roommate he planned to “talk to his parents or turn himself over.”

When shown pictures of the suspect taken near the crime scene, Twiggs also said the images “definitely do look like him [Robinson].”

However, Twiggs also said he only occasionally heard Robinson talk about politics, and personally had never heard his roommate speak about Kirk.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.

What to Watch For

Robinson was charged with aggravated murder after Kirk’s death and has not entered a plea. Graf is expected to rule Friday on whether prosecutors have enough evidence to bring Robinson to trial.
