With Double or Nothing quickly approaching, another episode of AEW Dynamite took place Wednesday night from Asheville, North Carolina, featuring two title matches and the official confirmation of the AEW World Championship match set for the pay-per-view on May 24.

Advertised for the show was Will Ospreay returning to the ring for the first time in three weeks to face Ace Austin, a six-woman tag match involving AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla, and the reveal of the Men’s and Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament brackets.

The cherry on top, though, was another AEW World Championship defense from Darby Allin, who put the title on the line against Konosuke Takeshita after Kazuchika Okada was pulled from the match due to his tour in Japan.

So what went down? Let’s take a look:

AEW Dynamite Results For May 13

  • A backstage video from earlier today is shown of MJF being interviewed. He’s asked about potentially putting his hair on the line against Darby Allin and walks away from Renee Paquette, only to see bald people everywhere around him.
  • Orange Cassidy, The Young Bucks, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage def. Tommaso Ciampa, David Finlay, Clark Connors and FTR by pinfall.
  • The Death Riders are working out outside. Daniel Garcia says Will Ospreay needs to show him something different tonight. Ospreay is shown working out with them while Jon Moxley and Wheeler Yuta train. Moxley reminisces with Ospreay about winning Best of the Super Juniors. Moxley says Ospreay is a bird of prey and more dangerous than ever. He tells Ospreay to give something tonight, not protect something.
  • A recap video is shown of the build to the Stadium Stampede match at Double or Nothing.
  • Ricochet says the Demand and Mark Davis, who defeated Jack Perry for the AEW National Championship, get things done. He then welcomes Andrade El Idolo as their next partner for Stadium Stampede and the Dogs.
  • Mike Bailey def. Westbrook by pinfall.
  • TNT Championship Match: Kevin Knight (c) def. Brian Cage by pinfall to retain the title. After the match, Bailey congratulates Knight, who says Bailey is red hot and welcomes Cage back. Knight says he can’t get over not having two belts, but Bailey says Knight is a future world champion. Knight thanks him for the support, and Bailey says he wants next in line for a world title match.
  • The Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament bracket is shown. Samoa Joe vs. Will Ospreay, Swerve Strickland vs. Bandido, Jack Perry vs. Mark Davis and Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brody King will take place, with the finals happening at Forbidden Door on June 28. Joe vs. Ospreay and Strickland vs. Bandido will happen at Double or Nothing.
  • Jack Perry says he’ll crack Mark Davis over the skull with anything at Stadium Stampede. He says he’ll prove he’s a better wrestler than Davis in their Owen Hart Foundation Tournament match.
  • Will Ospreay def. Ace Austin by submission. After the match, the Opps come out. Samoa Joe taunts Ospreay and says Ospreay has had a hard time hearing him. Joe says he would’ve given Ospreay a bye in the tournament, but he chose differently and is now a lap dog for the Death Riders. Joe says he’ll make Ospreay suffer the consequences at Double or Nothing. He then sends Anthony Bowens and Katsuyori Shibata after Ospreay until the Death Riders make the save.
  • MJF approaches Konosuke Takeshita backstage and calls him one of the best wrestlers in the world. He says Takeshita will win tonight and they’ll have a match for the world title. Takeshita shakes his hand. MJF gives Don Callis the Dynamite Diamond Ring in case things go awry. Andrade El Idolo approaches him and waves his hair at MJF. Callis says Takeshita will bring the world title back to the family tonight.
  • The Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament bracket is revealed: Persephone vs. Hazuki, Willow Nightingale vs. Alex Windsor, Mina Shirakawa vs. Athena and Skye Blue vs. Saree. Nightingale vs. Windsor will take place at Double or Nothing.
  • Backstage, the Conglomeration says they have a shot at the world tag titles and are deciding who it should be. Kyle O’Reilly says it should be Roderick Strong and Cassidy, and says he needs a Continental Championship match with Moxley. Willow Nightingale says she knows she can win more gold at All In. Mark Briscoe then makes his return and says he wants Tommaso Ciampa next week on Dynamite.
  • Hikaru Shida, Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor def. Thekla, Skye Blue and Julia Hart by disqualification. Willow Nightingale, Mina Shirakawa and Thunder Rosa make the save.
  • A hype package airs for Rush.
  • AEW World Championship Match: Darby Allin (c) def. Konosuke Takeshita by pinfall to retain the title.
  • After the match, Allin tells MJF to come out and sign the contract for their world title match at Double or Nothing. MJF stops himself from signing and says he hopes Allin has enjoyed his world title reign. He claims Allin won’t hold the belt again and has as much of a chance of winning it back as Adam Page does.

MJF adds that Allin’s legacy will be that of a kid who had 15 minutes of fame but never made a real impact. He then vows to become a three-time world champion at 30 years old and go down as the greatest of all time.

Allin responds by telling MJF to just sign the contract. MJF signs it and attacks Allin. As he goes to hit a tombstone off the top rope, Kevin Knight stops him to close the show.
