Ariana Grande scores yet another smash single with her latest tune, “Hate That I Made You Love Me.” The song serves as the first taste from her upcoming album Petal, the superstar’s eighth full-length, which will drop this summer.
The tune is an immediate No. 1 on both sides of the Atlantic, and it rules Billboard‘s global charts as well. In the United Kingdom, “Hate That I Made You Love Me” helps Grande advance on the list of artists with the most No. 1 singles in history, and as she breaks her tie with several famous figures, she matches three others.
Ariana Grande Scores Her Eighth U.K. No. 1
“Hate That I Made You Love Me” is Grande’s eighth No. 1 on the U.K.’s Official Singles chart, which ranks the most popular tunes in that nation. She’s been racking up leaders for more than a decade at this point, and Grande is so popular that whenever she shares something new, it has a good shot at soaring all the way to the summit.
Here are all of Ariana Grande’s No. 1s on the Official Singles chart.
- “7 Rings”
- “Bang Bang” with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj
- “Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored”
- “Hate That I Made You Love Me”
- “Positions”
- “Problem” with Iggy Azalea
- “Rain on Me” with Lady Gaga
- “Thank U, Next”
Ariana Grande Ties Kylie Minogue, Justin Bieber and More
With eight No. 1s now included in her catalog, Grande ties Justin Bieber, Kylie Minogue and Sam Smith for the ninth-most rulers on the Official Singles chart when looking at soloists. Just last week, she was on the same level as David Guetta, George Michael, Jess Glynne, Michael Jackson, Robbie Williams and Tinie Tempah, who have all sent seven tracks with their names attached to the highest rung, but that is no longer the case.
Ariana Grande Could Tie Rihanna Soon
If Petal can produce another leader, Grande will lift once more on the list of the most successful artists in the decades-long history of the Official Singles chart. Rihanna is the only solo act with nine No. 1s, and she sits one winner ahead of Grande, Bieber, Minogue and Smith.

Looking at the top of the ranking, Elvis Presley is in a distant first place with an incredible 21 leaders. Cliff Richard and Ed Sheeran sit side-by-side with 14 apiece. Madonna (13), Calvin Harris, Eminem (11) and Elton John (10) are the only other solo acts that have scored double-digit winners on the competitive tally.
Ariana Grande Returns to No. 1 for the First Time in Years
“Hate That I Made You Love Me” marks Grande’s first new No. 1 on the Official Singles chart in more than half a decade. The last time she sent a track to the peak position was in November 2020, when “Positions” began a run of half a dozen frames in the top spot. Earlier that year, she’d joined Lady Gaga on “Rain on Me,” which also led the way.
Since “Positions” ruled, Grande has collected 18 new hits on the Official Singles chart – not including “Hate That I Made You Love Me” – but none of them worked their way to No. 1. The first two tunes taken from her most recent album, Eternal Sunshine, “Yes, And?” and “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love),” both stalled at No. 2, missing out on ruling by just one space.
Ariana Grande Rules Five U.K. Rankings
This week, “Hate That I Made You Love Me” arrives on half a dozen rankings in the U.K., and it leads all but one. Grande’s latest fails to conquer the Official Streaming chart, though it does launch at No. 3, so it came very close to doing so. “Hate That I Made You Love Me” tops the Official Singles, Official Singles Sales, Official Singles Downloads, Official Physical Singles and Official Vinyl Singles rosters simultaneously.
