Just weeks before she begins promoting Wicked: Part Two, the second installment of the musical blockbuster, Ariana Grande is once again rising on the charts. She doesn’t have anything brand new to push, but her catalog is so vast and her hits so massive that she regularly soars with material that is sometimes years old. This week, one of her more recent successes returns to multiple tallies as it becomes a worldwide hit yet again.
“We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” Returns
Grande’s “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” is back on both of Billboard’s worldwide lists. The tune reappears on the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., landing at No. 196 on both rosters at the same time. That’s not the only coincidence the song manages on the pair of tallies.
A Previous Chart-Topper for Ariana Grande
“We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” has now spent 71 weeks on both the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. The track initially hit No. 1 on both rankings when it was brand new, though the number of chart-toppers Grande has earned on each ranking differs slightly.
Throughout her career, Grande has reached the summit on the Billboard Global 200 four times, but she’s only done so with three cuts on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., which omits all sales and streams from American consumers.
“Save Your Tears” and “Die for You” Also Remain
Grande released “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” in March 2024. The song served as the second single from Eternal Sunshine, her seventh full-length. The tune didn’t drop until the day the project was unveiled, and in America, both the album and the single opened at No. 1.
As is typically the case, Grande fills multiple spots on both of Billboard’s worldwide rankings. Two older cuts — both collaborations with The Weeknd — appear above “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love).” “Save Your Tears” is still present inside the upper half of the 200-position tally, while “Die for You” sits several dozen spaces above the Eternal Sunshine smash.
