Bruno Mars Breaks His Own Record As He Holds At No. 1

Throughout much of his career, Bruno Mars has straddled the line between pop and R&B. Many of his earliest tunes can be called pure pop, but most of his recent releases – throughout the past decade or so, in fact – are more often classified using the R&B label.

That is certainly the case with “I Just Might,” the lead single from his 2026 album The Romantic. The tune has performed incredibly well on Billboard‘s pop radio tallies, but it has similarly dominated on R&B and even hip-hop-leaning rankings. Months after it kicked off the latest chapter in Mars’s stellar career, “I Just Might” holds atop a handful of style-specific lists, and the Grammy winner breaks his own record as he rules once more.

Bruno Mars Leads Again With “I Just Might”

“I Just Might” currently commands the Hot R&B Songs chart, Billboard‘s list of the most-consumed tracks in that one genre. The single has now topped the tally for its entire 21-week run, as it debuted at the summit in January and has not slipped since.

“I Just Might” Breaks Bruno Mars’s Own Record

As of this period, “I Just Might” is now Mars’s longest-running champion on the Hot R&B Songs chart. Just days ago, it was tied for that honor with “That’s What I Like,” which reached the peak position in March 2017 and then went on to command the roster for an even 20 frames.

Bruno Mars Has Charted Five R&B No. 1s

Throughout his career, Mars has racked up five No. 1s on the Hot R&B Songs chart, and each and every one of them has spent double-digit frames in first place. His shortest winning streak remains “Smokin Out the Window,” credited to Mars, as well as Anderson .Paak and their super duo Silk Sonic. That tune topped the tally for 11 weeks. “Finesse,” one of multiple collaborations with Cardi B, managed only one additional stint in the top spot. “Leave the Door Open,” the first Silk Sonic single, spent 14 weeks as the biggest R&B song in America.

“I Just Might” Passes The Weeknd, Drake and… Bruno Mars

“I Just Might” now stands alone as the sixth-longest-running No. 1 in the history of the Hot R&B Songs chart. Last week, it was matched with “One Dance” from Drake, Wizkid and Kyla, Mars’s own “That’s What I Like,” as well as a pair of smashes from the Weeknd – “Starboy” with Daft Punk and “Timeless” with Playboi Carti. All of those tracks sat in the highest rung for an even 20 periods, and then stepped back.

If “I Just Might” can rule the Hot R&B Songs chart in a few days when Billboard refreshes the tally – which seems highly likely – the singer-songwriter will tie “Million Dollar Baby” by Tommy Richman and become the fifth-longest-ruling track ever. The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” continues to sit in first place on this all-time tally with 48 frames in the penthouse. “Mutt” by Leon Thomas, as well as two SZA singles, “Snooze” and “Kill Bill,” dominated the roster for 34, 32 and 30 weeks, respectively.

Bruno Mars Rules Three Lists With “I Just Might”

“I Just Might” holds at No. 1 on three rankings published by Billboard. In addition to the Hot R&B Songs chart, it similarly is unmoved in first place on both the Radio Songs and R&B Digital Song Sales rosters. The track also returns to No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales tally. “I Just Might” misses out on leading another three lists by just one space, including the Pop Airplay, Adult Pop Airplay and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts.
