Bruno Mars Charts All His Solo Albums Together As A Decade-Old Classic Returns

The fact that Bruno Mars has scored as many hits and accomplished everything that he has with only four solo studio albums is rather astonishing. Mars is one of the most successful hitmakers of not only his generation, but all time, when looking at sales and chart statistics, and he has yet to miss with any of his full-lengths.

After venturing into R&B territory – more so than in the past – as one-half of Silk Sonic with Anderson .Paak, Mars returned to his solo career earlier this year. He delivered The Romantic, his first full-length under his own name in nearly a decade, back in late February.

By the time The Romantic arrived, Mars had already scored a new No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with lead single “I Just Might.” “Risk It All,” which was selected as the second promotional cut, quickly became a smash as well, and both tunes, as well as the album, continue to perform well in America. For Mars, the focus remains on The Romantic, but fans across the country are listening to pretty much everything he’s ever released, and that’s evident with only a quick glance at the Billboard 200.

Bruno Mars Returns With Unorthodox Jukebox

Mars’s sophomore album Unorthodox Jukebox barely manages to return to the Billboard 200 this week. The tally ranks the most-consumed albums and EPs in the United States, and both sales and streaming activity play a role in where a title lands. This time around, Unorthodox Jukebox reappears in last place at No. 200 on the busy rundown.

Bruno Mars Charts All of His Solo Albums on the Billboard 200

As Unorthodox Jukebox reappears, all four of Mars’s solo albums – the entirety of his discography under his own name – can be found on the competitive ranking. The Romantic continues as his highest-ranking win, even as it slips outside the top 40, dipping from No. 39 to No. 41. Doo-Wops & Hooligans, his introductory effort, steps back five pegs to No. 79. 24K Magic, which preceded The Romantic by almost 10 years, manages to ascend from No. 186 to No. 180 – his only gain at the moment.

Two Bruno Mars Projects Miss the Main Albums Chart

Only two projects credited to Mars in one form or another that have reached the Billboard 200 are not present on the ranking this week. An Evening With Silk Sonic, which was officially attached to Mars and .Paak as soloists as well as the duo itself, peaked at No. 2 and spent 60 weeks on the roster. Mars’s own It’s Better If You Don’t Understand EP, which arrived less than half a year before Doo-Wops & Hooligans, spent one frame at No. 99 back in 2010 and has not been seen on the roster since.

Doo-Wops & Hooligans Remains One of the Longest-Charting Albums Ever

The Romantic has now spent 17 weeks on the Billboard 200, and that figure will surely grow substantially throughout the coming months and years, especially if “I Just Might” continues to reign as one of the singer-songwriter’s biggest hits. His other three solo albums have all spent years on the Billboard 200.

The shortest-running of the three is 24K Magic, with 222 frames on the tally. As it returns, Unorthodox Jukebox reaches 275 weeks on the Billboard 200. Doo-Wops & Hooligans continues to reign as not only the longest-charting success within the Grammy winner’s catalog, but as one of the sturdiest albums of all time. Doo-Wops & Hooligans, which produced generation-defining singles like “Just the Way You Are” and “Grenade,” is the seventh longest-charting project of all time, with 786 periods on the Billboard 200 to its credit.

The Romantic Appears on Multiple Billboard Rankings

While all of his solo projects may appear on the Billboard 200, The Romantic is the only collection by Mars to live on additional rankings. The set improves slightly on the Top Album Sales tally, pushing to No. 36, while dropping on both the Top R&B Albums and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts, where it descends to Nos. 7 and 13, respectively.
