The set gathers the group’s biggest singles, which were all released over the period of only a few years, as CCR was not together for very long and yet the rockers managed to churn out some of the most memorable rock smashes tinged with a country twang and an Americana flavor.
Creedence Clearwater Revival is one of a number of beloved musical acts that gain ground on the Billboard charts this week after the passing of the Fourth of July holiday. Streams and sales of patriotic tunes – or simply any piece of music with the name America, or which the masses felt were appropriate to hear during celebrations – surge meaningfully, and Chronicle is one of the biggest winners. The set returns to one list, rises on several others, and even brings the long-defunct act to a new peak position on another rundown.
Chronicle Reaches a New Streaming Chart Peak
On this week’s Top Streaming Albums chart, which details the most-played collections of any style and any length on sites such as Spotify and Apple Music throughout the U.S., Chronicle pushes 15 spaces north. The compilation settles at No. 24 after appearing at No. 39 just a few days ago.
That position marks a new high point for Chronicle. Since the title is the only one by Creedence Clearwater Revival to ever appear on the list, which was introduced only a few years ago, long after the act disbanded, the outfit similarly reaches a never-before-seen position on the tally.
Chronicle Nears Its First Year on the Streaming Chart
Chronicle first reached the Top Streaming Albums chart in November 2023. In the nearly three years since then, it has spent 45 weeks as one of the 50 most-streamed projects in the country. Before 2027 arrives, it’s likely that the compilation will become the band’s first one-year winner.
Chronicle Returns to It’s All-Time High on the Rock Chart
Chronicle almost reaches a new all-time high on a pair of Billboard charts, but it misses out on doing so by only one space. On the Top Rock Albums list, Chronicle dances from No. 7 to No. 3, returning to its previously-set peak. The title reached that spot in February 2020, three years after debuting.
Creedence Clearwater Revival Nearly Repeats Its Peak
Creedence Clearwater Revival almost manages the same feat on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart, a slightly busier and longer version of the Top Rock Albums roster. Chronicle halves its position, lifting from eighth place to fourth. The singles project reached its No. 3 top placement at the same time it settled into that position on the Top Rock Albums rundown more than six years ago.
Chronicle Returns to Billboard’s Albums Sales Chart
Chronicle manages to find its way back to only one of the five Billboard-published rosters on which it appears: the Top Album Sales chart. This frame, the compilation, which has already moved 12 million equivalent units, according to the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), is back at No. 47. Luminate reports that the title sold just under 2,300 copies between digital downloads, CDs, cassettes, and vinyl in the most recent tracking frame. That’s an impressive figure for an album that originally dropped 50 years ago.
Chronicle Has Spent More Than 800 Weeks on the Billboard 200
On the Billboard 200, the ranking of the most-consumed albums and EPs in the nation, Chronicle steps up 10 spots, surging from No. 36 to No. 26. That’s not far away from its No. 18 high point, which the compilation shockingly didn’t reach until November 2020, more than 40 years after it debuted on the list.
Chronicle holds as the fifth-longest-charting album in the history of the Billboard 200, and it ups its run to 806 weeks on the register. Chronicle trails only Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, Legend by Bob Marley and the Wailers, Journey’s Greatest Hits, and Metallica’s self-titled release. Those full-lengths have held on for 996, 947, 917, and 840 frames, respectively.
