Dakota Johnson’s ‘Materialists’ Gets Streaming Date, Report Says

Materialists — starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans — is reportedly coming soon to digital streaming.

Written and directed by Past Lives filmmaker Celine Song, Materialists opened in theaters on June 13. The logline for the movie reads, “A young, ambitious New York City matchmaker finds herself torn between the perfect match and her imperfect ex.”

Johnson stars as the matchmaker, while Pascal plays her possible perfect match, Harry, and Evans plays Lucy’s ex-boyfriend John. Materialists also stars Zoë Winters, Marin Ireland, Dasha Nekrasova and Louisa Jacobson.

Materialists is expected to arrive on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, July 22, according to When to Stream. While the streaming tracker is typically accurate with its PVOD reports, When to Stream noted that the release date for Materialists has not been announced or confirmed and it is subject to change.

When Materialists arrives on PVOD, it will be available on a variety of digital platforms, including Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube. Materialists, according to a Prime Video pre-order listing, will be available for purchase for $24.99..

Since digital rentals typically are $5 less than purchases, viewers can expect to rent Materialists for $19.99 for 48 hours.

Materialists to date has earned $32.5 million in North American theaters and $9.7 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $42.2 million against a $20 million production budget before prints and advertising, according to The Numbers.

Materialists earned an 80% “fresh” rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics based on 216 reviews.

RT users, meanwhile, gave Materialists a 67% “fresh” Popcornmeter score based on 1,000-plus verified ratings. The RT audience summary for the movie reads, “Materialists takes its time unfolding a modern love story that’s more drama than the comedy it promises, yet a stellar cast keeps it relatable and engaging.”

Rated R, Materialists is expected to arrive on PVOD on July 22.
