There was a time when the bestselling song in America could regularly be counted on to sell 50,000, 100,000 or even several hundred thousand copies in a single tracking week. When iTunes first became a game-changer in the music industry, some of the biggest stars would launch new hits with enormous totals, and tracks were known to be downloaded by thousands of fans each frame, even long after their initial heyday.
That is no longer the case as song sales have largely fallen out of favor, and now it is not unusual for the top-selling tune in the country to fail to reach five digits. That is the case again this week as Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” remains comfortable at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart.
As “Choosin’ Texas” earns another stay in the penthouse and fends off competition from two of the biggest pop stars of all time, the country blockbuster moves up again on the list of tracks that have spent the most time dominating the purchase-only roster.
Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” Spends 15 Weeks at No. 1
“Choosin’ Texas” has now spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart. The smash has accumulated 43 frames somewhere on the 25-space ranking of the bestselling tracks of any style or language in the United States, with only purchases through digital retailers such as iTunes and Amazon counted toward the roster’s order.
“Choosin’ Texas” first reached the tally in November of last year, and it only needed a few weeks before it soared to No. 1. In the months since, Langley’s biggest hit has become one of the longest-running champions in its history.
Ella Langley Ties Shaboozey’s Sales Record
With 15 weeks at No. 1, “Choosin’ Texas” is now tied as the fifth-longest-running leader ever on the Digital Song Sales chart. Langley matches Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” which managed the same 15-frame run in 2024 while helping bring country music back to an especially prominent place in the mainstream. In only a matter of days, “Choosin’ Texas” may break that tie and move up again.
Ella Langley Approaches the All-Time Record
Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’s country hybrid “Old Town Road” spent 16 weeks atop the Digital Song Sales ranking beginning in 2019. Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber’s “Despacito” held on one frame longer, ruling together for 17 periods.
The all-time record belongs to BTS, which matched its own historic showing. The K-pop group first established a new longevity benchmark at the list’s summit with “Dynamite,” which earned a total of 18 weeks at No. 1 beginning in 2020 and continuing into the following year. Later in 2021, “Butter” also led for 18 frames, tying the record BTS had established only months prior.
Ella Langley Holds Off Madonna and Kylie Minogue
“Choosin’ Texas” fends off Madonna and Kylie Minogue this week by a few thousand copies. The two pop legends recently joined forces for a collaborative version of “Love Sensation,” a single from Madonna’s Confessions II. The duet hit the top 10 on the Digital Song Sales chart last frame and now vaults to No. 2. That position marks a new career high for Minogue on the tally, though Madonna has run the show multiple times in the past.
“Choosin’ Texas” sold just under 8,000 copies in America last week. “Love Sensation” wasn’t far behind, with 5,100 purchases to its credit – with both the original and the updated duet version counted together.
Ella Langley Rules Five Billboard Charts
“Choosin’ Texas” sits at No. 1 on five Billboard rankings this week. In addition to the Digital Song Sales chart, the smash leads the Billboard Hot 100, as well as the Streaming Songs, Hot Country Songs and Country Streaming Songs charts.
Ella Langley Nearly Fills Half the Sales Chart’s Top 10
Langley claims five hits on this week’s Digital Song Sales chart, and four of them appear inside the top 10. Behind “Choosin’ Texas” at No. 1, “Jaded” with Koe Wetzel debuts at No. 3, nearly giving Langley control over the two highest spaces at once. “I Can’t Love You Anymore” with Morgan Wallen and “Be Her” follow at Nos. 6 and 8, respectively.
Langley comes extremely close to filling half of the entire top 10, but barely misses out on doing so. “You Look Like You Love Me,” one of her collaborations with Riley Green, climbs one space to No. 11.
