The long-awaited dramatic thriller El Juicio (The Trial), starring Eugenio Derbez (Acapulco, Radical) and Pedro Alonso (Berlín, La Casa de Papel), is finally headed to the screen in September.
The streamer has dropped the first official trailer, teasing the impact and toll of an act of violence on a young girl, the courage it takes to seek justice, and a wealthy father who leverages power and influence to protect his son and intimidate the victim amid a flawed justice system.
The eight-episode thriller arrives two years after it was first announced, marking Derbez’s first dramatic series and one of the highest-profile Spanish-language titles on Prime Video’s 2026 slate.
A war between two fathers
Inspired by real events, El Juicio follows the ordeal of a teenage girl sexually assaulted by a classmate. Facing the trauma of the crime, she and her father chase justice, but they find themselves up against a formidable opponent with money and influence on his side.

The accused is the son of a powerful businessman, and his family goes to war to protect him. One father fights for justice, the other spends every resource he has to intimidate the victim and shield his son. As both men push to protect their children at any cost, the line between right and wrong grows thin.
The cast and the team behind El Juicio
Derbez and Alonso lead an ensemble that includes Karla Gaytán (El amor invincible) and Íker Sánchez Solano (Bardo, falsa crónica de unas cuantas verdades), who portray their children.

Daniel Krauze (Luis Miguel, La Serie) created and wrote the series, drawing on research by León Krauze. He wrote alongside Rafael Samano, Karin Valecillos, Patricia Fernández and Rubén Escalante. Roberto Sneider (Arráncame la Vida), Belén Macías (Fugitiva) and Jorge Michel Grau (Asesino del Olvido) directed. El Juicio is a production of Amazon MGM Studios, 3Pas Studios, Visceral and Reclaim Entertainment Ventures.
Derbez, known mostly for comedy, has widened his range in recent years with films like Radical and the Academy Award-winning CODA.
The series was filmed in Puebla and Mexico City.
Part of a bigger regional bet
The premiere fits a strategy Prime Video has leaned into hard. Late in 2025, Javiera Balmaceda, Amazon Studios’ Head of Originals for Latin America, Canada and Australia, spoke about the value of original, impactful stories from the region, the kind rooted in local realities that can still travel to a global audience.
El Juicio fits that mold, tackling a difficult subject tied to Mexico’s judicial system and the people caught inside it.
El Juicio premieres worldwide on Prime Video on September 11.
