‘F1’ Misses No. 1 As A Netflix Project Beats It To The Top

F1 topped box office charts around the world when it was released in late June. The racing film, which stars Brad Pitt as an aging driver who finally gets his shot to score the coveted title in the Formula One arena, has already brought in hundreds of millions of dollars – $309 million, according to Box Office Mojo – and audiences seem to love it.

The film comes with a kickass soundtrack of original tunes produced by some of the biggest stars across a variety of genres. In the United Kingdom this week, the F1 soundtrack debuts on several tallies and misses out on becoming a No. 1 title by just one space, as it’s blocked by another one of the most exciting musical projects connected to a popular visual media property.

F1 Soundtrack Opens on the U.K. Charts

The F1 soundtrack launches at No. 2 on the Official Compilations chart, and that position marks the album’s highest debut in the U.K. The set is held back only by KPop Demon Hunters, the soundtrack that accompanies the film of the same name, which has quickly become a standout success on Netflix. That full-length opened atop the tally last frame and hasn’t moved since.

The F1 soundtrack also earns a lofty start on both the Official Vinyl Albums and Official Album Downloads tallies. On those rankings, F1 opens at Nos. 8 and 15, respectively. Somewhat shockingly, F1 doesn’t arrive on the Official Soundtrack Albums chart, despite being credited by the Official Charts Company as a soundtrack.

Several Singles From the F1 Soundtrack Have Charted

Promotion of the F1 album began in April, and since then, six official singles have been shared from the full-length. Three of those tunes reached the Official Singles chart, the most competitive songs tally across the pond.

Tate McRae’s “Just Keep Watching” is the standout success story from the project. That track opened in sixth place and hasn’t left the top 20 in the month since it arrived. At the moment, it appears at No. 14. Ed Sheeran’s “Drive” stalled at No. 49 on the same tally, while “Messy” by Blackpink singer Rosé barely managed to break onto the ranking, as it has spent just one turn at No. 100.
