FC Barcelona Coach Flick Has Two New ‘Untouchable’ Players

FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has two new, perhaps unexpected, ‘untouchable’ first team squad players according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.

That label is often used by the local press in Catalonia and Spain for those that cannot be sold for any price and are invaluable in terms of what they can offer to their manager.

In a Barca context, it’s one that would usually be assigned to the likes of Lamine Yamal and Pedri, though it can be lost as we’ve seen with captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The German shotstopper held such lofty status in the team during what now seems to be many moons to go.

With former Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia signed and announced already this summer, Ter Stegen is essentially being forced out of the club and is set for showdown talks with Flick a few days before preseason training officially starts on July 13.

In past windows, Eric Garcia and Fermin Lopez have also been linked with potential moves away from the club.

For the 2023/2024 season, then-first team coach Xavi Hernandez wanted his fellow Catalan to stay at the club but Eric opted for a temporary spell at Girona which proved to give him the confidence and experience the former Manchester City defender perhaps previously lacked.

During Barca’s recent treble-winning campaign, Garcia then went on to be a Swiss Army knife for Flick capable of playing various positions along the backline and in defensive midfield.

He even came up with important goals, such as that to pull one back in the San Siro, when Barca was trailing Inter Milan 2-0 and eventually went on to tie the fixture before losing the second leg, and effectively their Champions League semifinal as a whole, 4-3.

A big game player as seen against Flick’s former team Bayern Munich for starters, Fermin Lopez is one of the hardest workers in the team who brings the intensity that is central to Flick’s style of playing being successful.

It’s unsurprising that the pair are untouchables for their boss, who wants them to stick around and make a push to retain Barca’s titles while also trying to go further on the continent.

FC Barcelona won’t sell Eric or Fermin

According to SPORT, FC Barcelona won’t sell either Eric or Fermin in this summer transfer window even if tempting offers come in for the pair.
