FC Barcelona will receive funding from an unexpected source that should help it make further signings in the summer transfer window and beyond according to SPORT, which cited African reports that used anonymous sources.
Barca has already signed Joan Garcia ahead of 2025/2026, in reaction to shipping seven goals during a Champions League semifinal defeat to Inter Milan.
One of the main breakout stars of last season in La Liga was snatched away from crosstown rival Espanyol by triggering his €25 million release clause, which could spell the end of Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s Barca career as he will reportedly get told by Hansi Flick that he is surplus to requirements ahead of the first team returning to training on July 13.
After Barca had secured Garcia, it turned its attention to Euro 2024 winner Nico Williams and had allegedly agreed terms with the left winger.
All that was left was to raise the funds for his €58 million release clause at Athletic Club. Out of nowhere, however, which left Barca with egg on its face, the wideman penned a 10-year extension with the Basques until 2035 which took his release clause to something past €90 million.
This means that Barca must look elsewhere, and most probably at Liverpool’s Luis Duiz or Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford. They’ll also cost a penny, but the Catalans seem to have managed a cash injection from an unexpected source.
According to various African reports cited by SPORT, a collaboration agreement has been struck with the Congolese Ministry of Sports and Tourism.
It will entail Barca putting the country’s tourism promotion logo ‘DRC, the heart of Africa’ on the sleeve of the first team shirt for the next three seasons and this agreement is worth €10 million per year after the DRC’s Minister of Sports and Tourism, Didier Budumbu visited Barcelona this week to get it over the line.
Worth a total €30 million then, this cash injection will help Barca in future windows if the reports are accurate and the deal comes off.

While there would be the sponsorship itself between the African country and La Liga giant, FC Barcelona also reportedly agreed to help out schools and launch humanitarian projects locally through its Barca Foundation.
