FC Barcelona will try and sign three players in three chosen positions for next season according to Mundo Deportivo, which cited anonymous sources.

Earlier this week, it was reported by SPORT and MD how Barca has decided on Julian Alvarez as the successor to aging striker Robert Lewandowski, whose contract expires on June 30.

Priced at anything from $176-234 million (€150-200 million), however, the World Cup winner won’t come cheap and such a fee will be difficult to raise for a club still recovering from a post-pandemic economic crisis.

In any event, it is clear that Barca needs a target man whether it is one from the elite like Alvarez or a lower-cost option to keep Ferran Torres on his toes in the pecking order.

FC Barcelona wants to look towards the future out wide

On the wings, Hansi Flick has a few options among Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Roony Bardghji.

Marcus Rashford’s loan deal might not get made permanent, however, and looking ahead to the future, the scouting department has picked out Palmeiras sensation Edouardo da Conceicao Maciel as a potential star of the tomorrow.

As the youngster still isn’t close to adult age at 16, however, and has just renewed his contract with the Sao Paulo giants until 2029, there is no pressing need to sign one of the standout performers in the Copinha youth tournament that showcases Brazil’s best budding talents.

Because of this, handing over $35 million (€30 million) to Manchester United for Rashford might be the safest bet after all.

FC Barcelona is short of centre backs

Events such as Inigo Martinez’s departure to Saudi Arabia, Ronald Araujo’s mental health break, and another long-term injury for Andreas Christensen highlighted the shortage of centrebacks.

Gerard Martin is doing a fine job of partnering Pau Cubarsi in that area of the back line, and so too is Eric Garcia, but reinforcements are definitely needed.

Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol is the forbidden fruit that would be too difficult and expensive for Barca to land.

Elsewhere, however, there are top class options such as Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni and Nico Schlotterbeck at Borussia Dortmund.

Both aged 26, they can give peak years to FC Barcelona in what could be a glory era should Flick be capable of maintaining the success experienced in his maiden term last season.
